[ 12 ] ANUNNAKI AWAKENING
Maria vowed never to be that unprepared again. She had
worked for a week on devising just the right question for President
Paxton. She arrived at an ingeniously worded question
asking the President to comment on the new era of cooperation
between China and the United States.
Maria’s attractive brown eyes made momentary contact
with the President, but Paxton averted her gaze and called,
“Jacques Vallette.”
Le Monde? Seriously, Ron, Maria thought, forgetting protocol,
at least in her mind.
“Merci, Mr. President. . . .”
Maria instinctively began jotting notes about the French reporter’s
question and the President’s response. That’s what they
paid you to do, when you didn’t get to ask your question. You
were a glorified court reporter taking dictation of the event rather
than participating. Paxton finished his response and the
whole cycle began again.
“Mr. President, Mr. President” Maria rose again. This time
slowed by her distracting reverie.
Paxton paused and recognized Sarah Ann Reynolds from
PBS.
“Thank you, Mr. President . . .” Maria went right back into
note-taking mode. She preferred writing notes to an audio recording.
She always went back and watched the press conference
and she preferred to capture her impressions during the
answers.
Suddenly, Maria saw her favorite icon appear on her micro
heads up display. It was her husband, Jack. Owning the amazing
multitasker she was, Maria opened the message with a quick
flinch of her eye.
Jack texted, “Hey, beautiful, have you asked your question
yet?”
