Christian Seifert, Chief Executive <strong>Of</strong>ficer DFL, praises the work of the academies in the Bundesliga and<br />
Bundesliga 2 and predicts a rosy future for the <strong>German</strong> national team.<br />
Mr Seifert, ten years ago the<br />
compulsory implementation<br />
of academies for all clubs was decided.<br />
How important was this decision from a<br />
present-day perspective?<br />
Christian Seifert: “This decision<br />
by the League Association and its<br />
36 clubs and joint stock companies cannot<br />
be underestimated. All our gratitude<br />
goes to Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder,<br />
who consistently encouraged these<br />
reforms as the Chairman of the League<br />
Committee at the time. The outstanding<br />
work of the academies is surely a<br />
crucial factor behind the recent international<br />
successes of the Bundesliga,<br />
but also the national team. Considering<br />
the clubs today one can immediately<br />
see the effects of this decision in every<br />
squad.”<br />
In what ways?<br />
“In the current season, 275 players<br />
of the 525 playing in the Bundesliga<br />
come from one of the 36 academies.<br />
