3. Notes on Nahw:
a) Arabic will be taught via the English medium.
b) There will be a focus on “understanding”, rather than just rote learning.
c) Arabic Steps 1 to 3 will be used by pupils to enhance their Arabic
grammar knowledge, and to use as a reference for relevant examples
to bring into class. These books will not be compulsory to purchase, but
will be available as PDF files for pupils to access electronically.
d) Both teachers need to have a monthly meeting to review progress and
plan ahead. This is to ensure that both Arabic subjects run parallel and
in harmony. This is even more relevant when the class starts to do
“Stories of the prophet” in Arabic.
e) There is an LTP in place for Arabic, however this is for reference only
and the teacher needs to continuously assess progress of the syllabus
on a monthly basis.
f) Writing practice will also be part of the Nahw lesson. Pupils will need an
exercise book for this.
g) Pupils also need to be introduced to using different dictionaries. This is
after term 1.
h)
4. Notes on Sarf:
a) “Safwatul Masadir – English version” is to be used to provide (verb)
vocabulary as part of Arabic Etymology.
b) Pupils must recite paradigms with CLST, three verbs at a time.
c) All pupils must write one paradigm per week in an exercise book (in a
chart format). The purpose of this is to increase understanding, and writing
practice.
d) The teacher should point out verb patterns covered in Duas and Surats (as
applicable).
Notes: It is important to appreciate that the finer points of this syllabus are not
all mentioned here. Teachers need to use their initiative, and ensure “related
topics” are covered in both Sarf and Nahw.
