for Cheltenham

The Cheltenham Festival is the Olympics of the jumps racing calendar and is just around the
corner; this year’s renewal promises to be one of the opportunities of the year to pack your club.
The highlight of the Festival is the Betfred Gold Cup on Friday, March 16. Last year Sam Waley-
Cohen on Long Run became the first amateur jockey in 30 years to win the race and this year
all eyes will be on him to see if he can make it two in a row.
York City Branch Secretary Frank Healy, Secretary of the New York Club, is a big fan. “The
Cheltenham Festival is absolutely massive for us with the club packed out morning till night. We
can expect to take £12,000 during the week and the atmosphere during the four days is
absolutely fantastic and everyone, including myself, has a lot of fun.”
The Cheltenham Festival is the ideal opportunity to pack your club for the week and Racing UK

race live. The daily coverage starts at 9.30am, with preview shows on 5 and 12 March from noon.

1. Advertise your coverage of the
Festival with material supplied by

2. Create the right atmosphere by

preview show and make sure there
are plenty of betting slips
available from your local
betting shop.
3. Brief your staff to make sure they
are aware of the coverage.
4. Run daily competitions such
as a simple tipping competition

5. Build awareness of mobile

6. Look out for: Ruby Walsh, last
year’s leading festival jockey,
