CHRISTINE L. ZOLLER Music is all around us and it is not only what we hear on the radio, through CD players or in the movies. Each object has a sound, a rhythm, and a movement all its own whether it is the wind through the trees or a jackhammer on a construction site. We are part of a musical score, which surrounds everything we come in contact with. In my work, I have chosen to explore the many possibilities of expressing how music moves rhythmically through an abstract composition. The varied gradation of colors give depth and light to the work, helps to enhance the flow of the elements, and gives a suggestion as to the type of music being used within the piece. It is not important that these images become literal representations of music; therefore, I have taken sheet music and manipulated it through the use of computer software technology. The resulting patterns and textures capture the essence of the music, as they are screen printed within the piece. The squares, leaves and other objects, which float through the work, are music notes and their composition is derived from the actual sheet music where notes move rhythmically across the page. At this station in life, I no longer have the time to devote to the classical guitar studies, which were once a part of my everyday routine. My textile pieces have given me an opportunity to discover a new way of playing. I invite you to listen awhile and experience each piece’s own sense of rhythm.
