CanLII: Legislation from the Northern Territories
October 23 - Legislation from the
Northwest Territories, Nunavut and
Yukon is now part of CanLII's new
statutes and regulations publication
system. This concludes a major
endeavor, that is, preparing an
advanced tool for searching and giving
efficient access to legislative materials
in a manner never before seen on
CanLII.
This project took three years to
complete. All legislative materials
gathered by CanLII since its inception
were processed and inserted in a pointin-time
system. Providing access to this
country's point-in-time legislation to
legal professionals as well as to
Canadian citizens is a long-cherished
dream come true. Up until now no
government or publisher was able to
achieve this to that extent. It goes
without saying that CanLII is proud to
provide free access to these materials.
We must thank all those who
contributed to that success: personnel
from government departments and
Queen's Printers, Canadian local bar
associations, the Chambre des notaires
and finally our editorial and IT teams.
Legislation on CanLII will keep
progressing. The technological
foundation which is now implemented
is robust and will allow for developing
more advanced features for searching
and accessing online legislative
materials.
