Please Help our Retired Religious . . .
Next weekend, our parish will be conducting the appeal for the
Retirement Fund for Religious, an annual collection that benefits
some 34,000 senior sisters, brothers, and religious order
priests. As I reflect on the service of our women and men
religious, I recall the words of Jesus in John’s Gospel: “Whoever
serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my
servant be” (Jn 12:26). Through their prayer and ministries,
religious can be found wherever Jesus is found—not just in
Catholic parishes, schools, and hospitals, but also in service to
the poor, the lonely, and the oppressed.
In a profound way, we also find Jesus in the ongoing witness of
our elder religious. While many continue in active and volunteer
ministry, others are frail and need assistance. Yet they remain
wholly committed to their vocations, accepting the limitations of
aging and embracing the opportunity to focus more fully on
praying for our Church and world.
Most elder religious worked for years for small stipends, leaving
a substantial gap in retirement savings. With the ever-rising cost
of health care and the increase in the number of those needing
care, many religious communities now struggle to provide for
their senior members. The Retirement Fund for Religious offers
vital financial assistance to help meet day-to-day needs for
prescription medications, nursing care, and more.
The annual collection is an opportunity for each of us to be the
presence of Jesus to our senior religious. I ask simply that you
give what you can. Please join me in supporting the Retirement
Fund for Religious and in praying for God’s continued blessing
on our nation’s elderly sisters, brothers, and religious order
priests.

Grades 1-6:
Classes resume on Monday, December 2 and follow the regular
schedule this week. Let’s keep our attendance consistent and
strong!
As Advent begins, we encourage all our students and families to
remember the real reason for the season, as we get ready to
celebrate the birth of Our Lord. Please take some time to pray
together or stop by the church to visit Jesus. Adoration will be
held on Friday December 6. Come visit Jesus in the Blessed
Sacrament and make Adoration a part of your Christmas
preparation.
Looking ahead: December 19 will be the last day of Religious
Education classes for the year 2013. Classes will begin again
on Sunday, January 5, 2014.
Confirmation Preparation (Grades 7-8)
Level 2 (8th Grade) Confirmation students and
catechists: The Living Nativity will take place at the St. Aloysius
outdoor creche THIS Friday, December 6, with performances
from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Please be generous with your time so that
we can evangelize the Town of New Canaan about the true
meaning of Christmas.
Sponsor Forms and certificates are due to catechists at this
time. Those Confirmandi who are having trouble finding a
sponsor, getting a sponsor certificate from their sponsor, should
keep their catechist informed on their progress.
A special thanks to all of our Level I Confirmation students and
our high school teens that came together to fill 1,000 stockings
for Project 1,000! The stockings have arrived in Kentucky and
will begin to be distributed this weekend! Please keep our Mini
Mission Trip team in your prayers as they are in Kentucky this
weekend! May they be kept safe in their travels!

free of charge for us! Thanks for being our partner!
December is expected to be a tough
one for the people of Newtown.
Matt and Audrey, two popular
Cathoic Contemporary artists will be
doing a private concert at St. Rose
of Lima in Newtown on
Wednesday, December 18 at
6:30 pm. We have a limited
number of tickets for this event.
Tickets are $15 and with our support
at this event, it is our hope that God
will bring joy to the sad faces and
help us all get ready for Christmas!

Bronx to bring Christmas cheer to the children of
the Thorpe Family Residence. We will meet at
St. A’s at 11 a.m. and be back about 4 p.m.

host the children of Breakthrough Options here
for an afternoon of gingerbread house
decorating from 2:30-4:45 p.m.

Today begins the Advent season. We hear the message again
and again: Open our Hearts. Prepare the way of the Lord!
Advent is the beginning of our preparation for the coming of
Jesus. And, it is no coincidence that in 2 weeks we also
celebrate the Rite Of Welcoming for baptized inquirers and the
Rite of Acceptance for unbaptized inquirers in the RCIA
program. For our Inquirers, this is the beginning of the
Catechumenate stage of the RCIA program. . . the second
of four stages. It is a time of serious and dedicated formation.
At the Sunday liturgy on December 15, those seeking Baptism
into the Catholic Church proclaim this desire and the Inquirer
becomes a "Catechumen." Those already Baptized and seeking
to be in full communion with the Church proclaim their desire
and become a “Candidate”. The Catechumens and Candidates
are signed with the cross as a sign of their readiness to bear
witness to Christ with their whole lives. We ask you to please
pray for them as they continue their journey and for the success
of our RCIA program.
Catholic Daughters Christmas for STAR
The Catholic Daughters will host its annual Christmas
dinner for the members of STAR on Tuesday,
December 10th at 6:00 pm in Stapleton Hall. Santa,
his elves and a real live Gingerbread Man will be present to
spread Christmas cheer. Thanks to all the members who
contributed so generously to the Bakeless Sale to make this
event possible. There will be no meeting on
December the 5th. There will be a brief meeting
following the December 10th Christmas Party.
We do not meet in January.
Annual Christmas Eve Christmas Pageant
Calling all children who are interested in participating in the
pageant on Christmas Eve at the 5 PM Mass. Please call

participate. There will be two mandatory Saturday
Rehearsals on December 14 and 21 from 10-11 a.m.

This beautiful statue of the Blessed Mother is the statue that
was brought back from Fatima to St. Aloysius by members of
Our Lady’s Guild. It has been circulating among families in the
parish since 2005. Anyone may request the statue and have it
in their home. A short cartoon DVD on the story of Our Lady of
Fatima and instructions on how to say the Rosary accompany
the statue. If you have any questions, or would like to reserve
