Community Service with ENCOUNTER
Sunday, April 15 at 7:00pm
Twelve is a significant number in many ways. It is a particularly
significant number for our church this year. On April 12, 2012 it will
be exactly twelve years since the church moved into our new building!
So we are going to celebrate for twelve hours (9:00am-9:00pm)!
On the Sunday after Easter (April 15 th ) District Superintendent Dan
Harry will be our guest speaker (at both services) as we celebrate our
twelve year anniversary. Pastor Dan was the pastor when the move
was made and he served the Jerseyville church for twelve years. He
will preach at both services. From 7:00pm until 9:00pm that evening,
we will host “Encounter”, a 100-voice youth choir from Alton.
The Finance Committee also wants to invite the church to make a
special Easter Offering to the Church Building Fund. Our goal is
twelve thousand dollars. The total amount given will be announced
on our Celebration Sunday. There have been some very positive
changes regarding the mortgage of the church and these will be part of
the celebration as well. Let me encourage you to read Roberta’s
treasurer’s report about those changes elsewhere in this newsletter.
This Easter season, there are five different days with five very
different services being planned for the anticipation and celebration of
Easter. I hope you will read about the details in other areas of this
newsletter and participate as often as possible. I am confident it will
make your Holy Week and Easter Sunday more meaningful.
Pastor Mark
Encounter, a 100-voice youth choir from Alton will be here to
perform on Sunday, April 15. The Ministerial Alliance will be hosting
the service here for our community.
Please make plans to attend and bring a guest. It will be a fantastic
evening of praise!
We will be providing supper for Encounter. Dessert donations would
be appreciated. Please call the office, or sign-up on the registration
pad at church, if you are able to donate a dessert. Thank you!
Cake and a Concert for Camp
Cake and a Concert for Camp
Sunday, April 29
6:00pm
Come and bring some friends for an enchanting
evening of cake and a concert! We will have delicious desserts
available for a donation, and you are welcome to enjoy them
while the entertainers performs. Coffee and tea will also be
available.
We would like to have 12 beautiful desserts for a silent auction.
Please see Laura if you would be willing to donate something
delectable!
This will be an enjoyable event, full of fun and fellowship. All
proceeds will benefit our camping program.

hospital and at home.

hours at home where she loved and wanted to be. Thanks for all the kindness.
Thanks for the people that prepared the food , which was delicious, and to Pastor
Mark Myers for preaching a wonderful message. I would like to thank David Hayes
for the fine singing and to Roberta for the beautiful organ music. Thanks to the men
for moving furniture out and back in, and to those that sent beautiful flowers and
donations to our charities. Thanks to my son-in-law, Dave, and my daughter, Pam,
or my wife would not have gotten to spend her last few hours at home. If I missed
anyone I apologize. I will forever be grateful.

Christian Easter Egg Hunt at the church
for families with children through 5th
grade. Bring your family and invite a
family to come with you to hear the Easter
Story through an egg hunt!
Sunday, April 1, 9:00 & 11:10am-Palm
Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week.
We will honor this day with a Palm Parade
by our children and choir. Children through
5th grade are invited to be at the church
at 8:45am to pick up their palm and join
the parade! The children will also perform
at the beginning of both services.
Thursday, April 5, 7:00pm-Maundy Thursday Worship. Invite others
to experience this special service with you, as we commemorate
the Last Supper with Jesus and the disciples.
Thursday, April 5, 8:00pm-24 Hour Prayer Vigil Begins. Please signup
to come to the church to pray, remembering the last 24 hours
of Christ’s life. There are 48 half hour periods, where we would
like to see at least two people praying throughout the evening and
night of Maundy Thursday through 8:00pm on Good Friday. Feel
free to register for more than one shift.
Friday, April 6, Noon-Good Friday Community Service. This year’s
service will again be held at the First Baptist Church.
Easter Sunday, April 8. We offer many opportunities to celebrate the
day Jesus defeated death to live again! Come, worship, fellowship
and rejoice! We are offering:
7:00am-Sunrise Celebration Service
8:00am-Breakfast by “His Hands” Mission Team
(there is no charge, but donations would be appreciated)
9:00am-Easter Celebration Service
10:10am-Sunday School

Treasurer’s Report
The Finance Committee has approved refinancing our church loan. Our
current lender and the local banks were all asked to submit proposals.
Farmer’s State Bank was chosen based on a rate of interest approximately
2.5% below our present rates. Also, we are no longer required to have an
annual external audit, saving us an additional $6000 per year.
Upon completion of an appraisal and closing (hopefully during April), we
will have a 9-year fixed interest loan with 52 weekly payments less than
$2,800.00, lower than our present 12 monthly $14,716.28 payments. At the
end of March, our principle balance is $1,135,871.92.
If we continue to make payments (including the extra ones) as we have in
the past, we will have our church debt free in 7 years, at least 5 years ahead
of our original schedule. That is exciting!
Giving to the Building Fund is not about giving to ourselves as a church, but
about providing a place to spread the love of Jesus with our ministry, our
daycare, our many events to help and support others, and our witness and
outreach.

On March 11, we had our monthly breakfast. Plans and preparations
were made for our annual Good Friday Fish Fry to be held
at the Prescription Shop parking lot. Many thanks to Randy
Newberry for his support of our group’s activities. We look

Family Christian Egg Hunt
Saturday, March 31

Join us for a morning of Christian fellowship!
Collect the eggs that tell the Easter Story and celebrate
our Risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, then
hunt candy filled eggs and enjoy treats in the gathering
space.
Reservations are requested. You can pick up a form in the Atrium or
call the church at 498-2621.
Palm Sunday Parade
Sunday April 1
9:00am & 11:00am
All youth are invited to participate in the Palm Parade to help us celebrate
Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem! Performances by the Littlest
Angel Choir and the Handbell Choir will follow the parade. Invite
your family and friends to celebrate with us! Please be in the gym by
8:45am to get your costume and palm branch.
Summer Camps
Be sure to pick up your camp magazine and registration
forms for summer camping fun!
Scholarships (half off up to $175) are available for
JUMC attendees. We currently have groups attending My Shepherd
& Me on June 22-24, and Campelodeon on June 13-15.
Completed Camp Registration Forms and payment are due by Sunday,

Recreational Activities
It’s time for softball! The Jerseyville United Methodist Church is part of a
co-ed league involving 10 local churches. Dave Plummer has volunteered to
be the team coach again. Thanks, Dave!
This is a Christian based league that was established for fellowship, and serving
and honoring God. Players must have attended a church service during
the week to be eligible to play. The basic age range is 16-55 years. A complete
list of regulations is available upon request.
All games will be played at the American Legion. Weather cancellations and
rescheduling will be at the call of the coaches. The schedule is:

ZUMBA Classes will be held in the gym beginning in April. They will be
led by Tabitha Schulte, who is a certified ZUMBA instructor.
Tabby is an active member of our church, teaching in the jr. high
Sunday School Class, volunteering in the nursery, and leading
Children’s Church. She is married with three beautiful children. She is
energetic, enthusiastic and ready to ZUMBA!
