<str<strong>on</strong>g>Background</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Regi<strong>on</strong>al</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

1. <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> (Nati<strong>on</strong>al Aerospace <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g> Exploitati<strong>on</strong> Programme) is a nati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

programme to inject new technology and new technology management capabilities into<br />

the UK aerospace supply chain. <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> will provide both m<strong>on</strong>ey and mentoring, funding<br />

and supporting with expertise 100 new technology projects in the supply chain. It is an<br />

Aerospace Growth Partnership (AGP) programme managed by ADS and delivered with<br />

the support of the regi<strong>on</strong>al aerospace alliances such as the Midlands Aerospace<br />

Alliance (MAA) as part of the UK nati<strong>on</strong>al aerospace industrial strategy. In terms of<br />

public funds, it is funded until March 2017 from the BIS Advanced Manufacturing Supply<br />

Chain Initiative (AMSCI) managed by Birmingham City Council and Finance<br />

Birmingham.<br />

Role of <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> Midlands <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

2. The <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> Midlands <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g> will lead the delivery for the Midlands<br />

Aerospace Alliance (MAA) of <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> within the Midlands regi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

3. The <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g> will project-manage <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> in the Midlands with the<br />

assistance of a <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> Midlands Industry Liais<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g> and other MAA resources<br />

and capabilities, working closely with the nati<strong>on</strong>al <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> team under the directi<strong>on</strong> of the<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> Programme Director and Deputy Programme Director.<br />

4. A set of programme documents will be made available to aid the <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<strong>on</strong>ce appointed, including the <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>tract between ADS and MAA, the <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> offer<br />

letters from Birmingham City Council and associated documents including a <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Regi<strong>on</strong>al</str<strong>on</strong>g> Manual.<br />

Specific tasks<br />

5. Within this role, a number of tasks will be undertaken:<br />

a. The principal task will be to support the formati<strong>on</strong> of supply chain c<strong>on</strong>sortia<br />

based in the Midlands to undertake technology development projects. This will<br />

include organising outreach events, assisting smaller companies with proposal<br />

writing, ensuring appropriate selecti<strong>on</strong> and documentati<strong>on</strong> of projects as an<br />

accountable body, m<strong>on</strong>itoring and supporting the progress of funded projects<br />

and helping companies disseminate results including to prospective customers.<br />

A budget is available to support this work.<br />

b. Operating within the MAA organisati<strong>on</strong>al framework, the <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

will also manage a <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> Midlands <str<strong>on</strong>g>Regi<strong>on</strong>al</str<strong>on</strong>g> Advisory Panel (RAP). The RAP<br />

will be chaired by the MAA chief executive officer and be composed of<br />

independent industry experts, which will meet quarterly to help identify and<br />

develop projects based in the Midlands. It is the RAP that will propose projects<br />

for funding to the <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Steering Board (NSB). The <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g> will assist the RAP to report to the NSB, using key performance<br />

indicator (KPI) and dashboard reporting tools in a comm<strong>on</strong> form with other<br />

regi<strong>on</strong>s to allow the NSB to have an overview of the whole nati<strong>on</strong>al programme.<br />

c. The <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g> will liaise with <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> peers elsewhere in the UK to<br />

identify opportunities for cooperati<strong>on</strong> in <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> with businesses from other<br />

regi<strong>on</strong>s. In additi<strong>on</strong>, the <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g> will need to build and maintain an<br />

awareness of additi<strong>on</strong>al funding opportunities for <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> companies and<br />

aerospace supply chain companies more generally.<br />

d. In order to deliver <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> effectively, as and when required the <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g> will represent the Midlands and its supply chain companies at a<br />

nati<strong>on</strong>al level <strong>on</strong> aerospace technology matters, liaising as appropriate with ADS,<br />

the Aerospace & Defence Knowledge Transfer Network, BIS and TSB.<br />

6. In fulfilling the role, the <str<strong>on</strong>g>Technology</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Manager</str<strong>on</strong>g> will thus act as Midlands Aerospace<br />

Alliance’s point of c<strong>on</strong>tact for new technology and innovati<strong>on</strong> within the regi<strong>on</strong>’s<br />

aerospace sector, through <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g>. This will include utilising the MAA’s network of<br />

member companies, committees and c<strong>on</strong>tacts databases to liaise with all businesses<br />

serving the industry, as well as with universities and research and technology<br />

organisati<strong>on</strong>s (RTOs), with the object of advancing the combined technological<br />

capability of the regi<strong>on</strong>’s aerospace industry. Assisting supply chain companies including<br />

SMEs to make full use of regi<strong>on</strong>al resources such as the facilities of local universities will<br />

be important, and <str<strong>on</strong>g>NATEP</str<strong>on</strong>g> can be a vehicle for enhancing this as well as enhancing the<br />

technology management capabilities of supply chain companies for the future..<br />

Pers<strong>on</strong> specificati<strong>on</strong><br />

1. Has experience at senior engineering or technical level in the aerospace industry,<br />

preferably at both prime/first-tier level and at smaller supply chain companies.<br />

2. Has developed and managed funded research and technology projects including<br />

liais<strong>on</strong> with public funding bodies<br />

3. Has experience in liaising between industry <strong>on</strong> the <strong>on</strong>e hand and universities and<br />

research and technology organisati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> the other hand<br />

4. Brings str<strong>on</strong>g project management experience<br />

5. Is a self-starter able to manage “programme within a programme”<br />

6. Is able to present at technical meeting events with 60-200 delegates<br />

7. Is able to work <strong>on</strong> demand as required by the task<br />

Terms and c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s<br />

The successful candidate will be employed by the Midlands Aerospace Alliance, <strong>on</strong> terms<br />

and c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s to be mutually agreed, <strong>on</strong> a fixed term c<strong>on</strong>tract until March 31 st 2017.<br />
