CARING
CUT-A-THON
Albert Snow and his team at the Albert Snow
salon in Hamilton, Ontario, believe in giving back to
their community and Goldwell is their partner in their
caring efforts. Recently, their annual cut-a-thon
raised about $5,000 for the McMaster Student
Outreach Clinic, a local volunteer charity organization
supporting the community’s homeless.
They got involved when one of Snow’s clients
asked for their help. She and the Outreach
Volunteers spend Wednesday evenings helping the
homeless find shelter and medical care for their
feet, while passing out blankets, hot chocolate
and fruit to those who won’t leave the streets.
GOLDWELL
AT THE GRAMMY AWARDS
When Songstress/Actress Eve chatted up Joan Rivers on the Red Carpet at the 2005 Grammy Awards, she gave
a shout out to her hair stylist, Suzette Boozer. Just like Eve depends on Suzette to keep her looking her very best,
Suzette relies on Goldwell products, such as Goldwell hair colour and Kerasilk haircare to keep Eve’s hair soft and
silky, as she morphs from one style to the next for her hit television series and special appearances.
Four years ago, the Albert Snow team
launched a cut-a-thon to raise funds for the
supplies, and it continues to get bigger every
year. This year, they invited 20 local salons to
help do haircuts, and Goldwell was the sole
sponsor of this event providing the necessary
supplies, as well as having donated four gorgeous
gift baskets packed with products for
raffles and products for back bar use.
“Bringing 52 hairdressers from local salons
together to help our community is rewarding
for everyone,” says Snow. “Not only do we
help a worthy local cause, but we get to see
fellow hairdressers we haven’t seen all year.”
CONGRATULATIONS to Goldwell North
American Guest Artists CAM PATEY /The Hair
Factory, St. John’s, NFLD/ and FRANK TRIPODI
/Phases Salon, Woodbridge, ON/. They are finalists
for the 16th Annual North American Hairstyling
Awards in the Texture category.
AMBUSH
MAKEOVER
Ambush Makeover’s dramatic, fast-paced
makeovers require a top team of celebrated stylists,
makeup and hair artists to produce a segment that’s
fun, interesting and delightful to their audience.
That’s why the producers recently called on two
Goldwell artists, Janet Rufin from New York City and
David Austin from Las Vegas, to create new looks
for unsuspecting male targets.
Rufin, who is a Goldwell Technical Associate for
Goldwell of Metro New York, recently opened her
own salon, Parlor, in New York City. She teamed
with colleague Brian Pickston, to turn a music
teacher from Queens with hair down to his knees
into a Josh Duhamel look-a-like. They combined a
short, hot cut with lowlights using none other than
the unique Goldwell Colormat to create drama on
camera. When the cameras panned the salon, they
revealed an array of Goldwell products and technical
tools to the audience.
DAVID AUSTIN >>
THEY’RE
NAHA
FINALISTS!
Further NAHA Finalist congratulations go to our Goldwell partners: EDWIN JOHNSTON
/The Cutting Room, Nanaimo, BC/, MIKE INSALACO /Hot Heads Salon, Kitchener, ON/,
RINO BALZANO /Capucci Salon & Spa, Toronto, ON/, LINA SHAMOUN /Deeva Hair,
Kitchener, ON/, and JUDY MACDONALD /The Hair Factory, St. John's, NFLD/
>>The NAHA's are July 24 in Las Vegas. To attend and cheer these individuals on,
call 1-800-468-2274 or visit www.hairstylingawards.com.
When Ambush Makeover traveled to Las Vegas,
they called on David Austin, Euphoria’s Director of
Goldwell Education, to add his expertise. This particular
ambushee’s wife had written the show begging for
a makeover for her husband, who had become a Jerry
Garcia clone, complete with long gray hair and beard.
Austin, who is also president of the Nevada State
Board, cut the target’s hair short, added highlights
to blend in the gray and cut the beard off completely.
“His wife loved it!” says Austin, especially when he gave
the cut a touchable finish with Trendline Jelly Mousse.
Austin shares his behind-the-scenes story: “When
you’re working on TV, you need to create dramatic
contrast from start to finish,” he explains. “They’ll
show before and after photos next to one another,
and while the looks can appear very different in person,
they’ll look softer on camera. For example, in this
case, I put in stronger highlights than I would with
a regular client to get a natural look on camera.”

FOR HAIR AND SCALP
NEW Goldwell Regulation
provides specialized care for hair and scalp, solving many common
problems. These caring products regulate natural scalp
functions and balance all types of hair structures for the
healthiest hair and scalp possible.
All Regulation products contain Herbal Milk, a calming,
soothing blend of Chamomile and Nettle Milks. The
soothing, gentle properties of Chamomile and Nettle
help to ease itching and reduce skin inflammation.
Regulation products also feature the unique Y-Shine Complex,
an innovative combination of Yogurthene, Panthenol
and care polymers that provide unsurpassed shine
and condition to the hair. Yogurt, known to contribute
to overall health, is used in the cosmetic industry
to improve moisture retention. Yogurthene – a derivative
of Yogurt, contains vitamins, minerals and proteins
necessary to improve combability and shine,
while returning lost moisture to the hair.
The line features three products:
DEEP CLEANSING
CLARIFIER SHAMPOO
Powerful yet gentle surfactants combined
with a special chelating agent, Disodium EDTA,
gently yet thoroughly cleanse the hair, removing
residue resulting from mineral build-up, chlorine
and styling products. It leaves hair purified
with a brilliant shine, while the anti-oil agent,
Zincidone, helps to keep hair feeling fresh.
ANTI-DANDRUFF SHAMPOO
Gently cleanses hair to effectively
control dandruff and balance the scalp,
preventing skin irritation.
A high concentration of Zinc Pyrithione
alleviates and helps to prevent
the recurrence of dandruff.
ENERGIZING HAIR TONIC
Instantly refreshes, revitalizes and cools
the scalp with Menthol, Panthenol
and Allantoin. Leaves hair full with added
body. Nicotinic Acid Ester stimulates
the scalp, increasing blood flow,
which could help to prevent hair loss
caused by low blood circulation.

TREND,
ZOOM 05
LAS5VEGAS!5555
Trend Zoom ’05 premiered on the runways at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to a sold out crowd of
about 800 stylists, members of the media and VIPs. Here, we invite you into the three Worlds of
Trend Zoom ’05 — Ethic Flow, Graphic Twist and Wild Deluxe — as presented on 60 models and
25 dancers during a true Las Vegas production. Use these looks for inspiration when talking to
your clients about what’s new.
So how do you bring these runway looks into your salon?
“The inspiration for hair comes from the catwalk.
Be inspired about these expressions in hair and apply
them to your daily work,” says KEVIN CAMERON.
“Experience the art, joy and possibilities from looking
at your hairdressing in a new way.
For example, fuzzy hair on the runway translates
to techniques and products that create the texture
— from healthy hair — in the salon.”
555555555
For the rest of the year, Goldwell will offer the Trend
Zoom cut, colour and style techniques to your local area.
Ask your Goldwell Sales Consultant for details.
555555555
555555555
“Here, we’re creating
dramatic looks for a show,”
says JUAN PEREZ.
“Take what you see that’s dramatic
and make it demure in the salon.”
“Often, you attract clients who are in the same
‘world’ as you are,” explains JOHN SIMPSON,
who styled the dancers. “Look at your clients
and identify who they really are through their
lifestyle, fashion and how they like to wear
their hair. Then, incorporate elements from
Trend Zoom, for example a panel of colour or a
section of texture, that will fit into their moods
and looks from edgy to softer to playful.”
Adds RON HAWKINS, who created Graphic
Twist looks, “Finishing and styling take
center stage in this ‘World’ — they let you
play up or play down the dramatic geometric
shapes and strong lines in the cuts. Use
this opportunity to educate your clients
about using styling tools and Goldwell’s
Trendline products to change their hair as
often as they change their clothes.”
“Ethic Flow is the most consumer-friendly
‘World’ straight from the runway,”
says THOMAS DEWING. “Under a wellness
theme, it’s about soft colours, movement
and shapes, which can be used to update
even your most conservative clients’ looks.”

“Use Trend Zoom’s shapes, colours
and textures all over for a show
or photo shoot or try incorporating
a blast of texture or burst of colour
into just one section of the hair
of your clients, which can be hidden
or exposed as their lifestyle dictates,”
says MARIO KRANKL, a guest
artist from Austria.
“Trend Zoom is not about replicating
exaggerated looks or techniques.
It’s about embracing the feeling and
making it your own,” says CAM PATEY,
who embraces the Graphic Twist world
through strong colour placements
that communicate boldness.
5555555
Says JOAN NOVAK,
“Trend Zoom’s contrast of cool
and warm tones on the same head
in non-contrasting levels gives you
a new way to update your weave
clients, as opposed to creating
contrast through light vs.
dark tones.”
5555555
5555555
5555555
“The whole philosophy of Trend
Zoom is contrasts in colour, cuts
and styles on the same head,”
explains JOE LORENZ, one of the
creators of the Trend Zoom techniques.
“Try taking small sections of colour,
cut or texture and mix them
in a new way.”
“Any client can fit into any ‘world,’”
says SUZIE BOND. “For me, it’s all about
the acceptance of many textures, whether
natural or added with hair extensions,
colour, styling tools or Trendline products.
Your formulation and placement help
them become their own rock star.”
She s
a survivor
The Tribal Council might not have voted her the
ultimate survivor, but at Goldwell’s Trend Zoom
premiere in Las Vegas, Survivor: Palau, contestant
Janu Tornell was the ultimate model for the Wild
Deluxe world. Tornell is a lead Las Vegas showgirl at
a major hotel when she isn’t appearing on TV, but
her exotic looks, flowing mane and cat-like moves
created the perfect canvas for Goldwell Guest
Artists to work their Wild Deluxe magic. Tornell was
previously Miss Nevada USA and first runner-up in
Mimi’s Miss Nuestra Belleza competition.
WITH THE OLYMP HAIRMASTER ULTRA
{ The smart salon equipment }
Imagine having one intelligent space-age device that could guarantee
fast and precise results for colour, perms and even wet sets. That future is
now with the Olymp HairMaster Ultra an open-air device with new, intelligent
Goldwell chip-card programming.
This unique infrared processor and conventional hood dryer in one
features patented air ducting, which provides uniform and constant heat
treatment for all parts of the hair. The adjustable blower system provides
optimum distribution of heat to ensure even colour and perm processing.
Plus, the HairMaster Ultra features a special Goldwell chip, which stores
all the data for optimum time and temperature specifications for all types
and hairstyles. It optimizes your perm and colour diagnosis, formulation
and processing, as well as your Goldwell product recommendations. And
it’s easy to use. You simply browse through the programs at the turn of a
button via an illuminated LCD display panel. When Goldwell introduces
new products, the chip-card is simply updated.
The Olymp HairMaster Ultra is available in black or white in a wallmounted
or mobile stand design, which allows you to wheel it around the
salon wherever it’s needed. It is now available through Goldwell as the
result of a special partnership with Takara Belmont. Ask your Goldwell
Sales Consultant for more information.
THINK LOW...GO FAR!
Do you ever venture to the low end of your
radio dial where classical and opera music
lingers? Talk radio leads mini-revolutions with
words and eclectic college stations turn
unknowns into the lords of alternative music?
Try it. Open yourself up to the low end and
you may find you like it. You may find you are
inspired. No matter what, you will have
expanded your horizons.
Exploring the low end of the radio dial is
similar to what we as beauty experts and fashion
mavens must do to keep ideas pumping blood
to our creative minds. Instead of only seeking
inspiration through sight, we must listen and
feel. Music and words have the power to move
you. Use them to feed your mind; refuel.
Without new avenues of inspiration, our
spirit falls prey to bland styles, constant
razoring and the same colour formulas for
every age range and style profile. Drop the
razor. Change your radio station. Close your
eyes and allow your imagination to run free.
Go to places you have never been before
without getting out of your seat. Your clients
will notice the difference and you will FEEL it.
Now go out there and live in this world!
“People wash their clothes every day
and see fadeage, but they don’t take them back
to the store after 30 days and complain,
because they have realistic expectations,”
says FRANK TRIPODI, OWNER OF PHASES HAIR STUDIO
IN WOODBRIDGE, ONTARIO. “They also follow the instructions
for caring for their clothes and wash them with the recommended
products. You need to give clients home care instructions on how
to maintain their hair colour, as well. For example, don’t wash
in hot water and always remember to shampoo and treat with
Goldwell’s Color Glow to keep colour vibrant and lasting.”
With the summer sun shining brightly, it’s the
perfect time to recommend Goldwell Color Glow.
This daily-use system of Shampoo, Treatment,
Leave-in Fluid and Shine Finish helps your
clients’ hair colour last longer, maintaining its
depth and shine between salon visits. Color
Glow is great for natural colour too, enhancing
the richness of natural colour and preventing
fading due to daily stress.
IS QUICKLY BECOMING A STAPLE IN SALONS
Savvy salons across North America are sending
their clients home with Color Glow to ensure
their creative work lasts between salon visits.
Even smarter are those who are using it at the
backbar and station to promote home hair colour
maintenance and drive their haircare business.

Adds PETER BULLEN, CO-OWNER WITH DEBORAH SIMONS
OF PETER THOMAS SALON IN BERKELEY, CA,
“Color Glow is the easiest product in the
world to sell, because the results are 100%
tangible – your clients can see them immediately,”
he says. “All you have to do is apply the product.”
Peter Thomas Salon is a Platinum-Plus Member of the Goldwell Salon Alliance.
BACKBAR BASICS
“Everyone’s colour fades, so Color Glow is a natural recommendation,”
says Bullen. “Even clients with salt and pepper
hair can use the boost in depth and shine they get from Color Glow.”
Phases Salon also introduces clients to Color Glow right at the back bar
where they can see its benefits immediately.
“People love eye candy,” says Tripodi, “and Color Glow fits the
bill. We display it at every station and have a beautiful frame next
to the product telling about it.”
At Phases Hair Studio, Color Glow is also displayed at the front desk and
in the reception area. “The more they see, the more they buy,” says Tripodi.
At Peter Thomas Salon, Color Glow Leave-in Fluid is found on every station
and stylists are encouraged to apply it to every client who can use a boost.
“Color Glow is much better than competing products in the
category, but clients won’t know that until they see the results,”
says Bullen.
“I recommend Color Glow
for every client who is experiencing
fadeage, and the feedback is phenomenal.
They especially love the conditioners, which feel so light,
but provide maximum benefits.
It’s also something new to add variety for my Definition
or Kerasilk clients,” says DANA LYSENG,
A GOLDWELL NORTH AMERICAN GUEST ARTIST FROM SUPERNOVA
SALON IN VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA.
STATION CREATIONS
Experimenting with haircare products is part of the fun when it
comes to finding new uses and solutions. Ann Bible, owner of
Josef & Stephen, a Goldwell Salon Alliance Platinum-Plus member in
Greenville, SC, found a new way to use Color Glow Color Finish when
she and her team were searching for ways to control her own curl.
"My hair is very thick, coarse and wavy," she explains, "so
I've always had difficulty wearing it straight. With Color
Glow Color Finish, that's no problem. Every time I shampoo
and condition, I take about a quarter-size amount of Color Glow
Blonde Color Finish and apply it to wet hair—focusing on the
ends. Then, I blow-dry my hair, using a round brush. There’s no
need to damage my hair with a flat iron to keep it straight because
Color Glow does the job. Plus, it leaves my hair more manageable
with a beautiful sheen and my highlights looking fresh."
“I also love to use Color Glow for my creative work,” says Lyseng.
“For example, I’ll add a couple of scoops of Be Blonde Treatment
to Colorance Y Mix to add colour back to highlights. Or, to create
pink highlights, I’ll apply Stay Red over blonde highlights. It’s a
safe and gentle approach that clients can continue using at home.”
Adds Bullen; “Our stylists have fun mixing colours to
create the perfect customized shades for their clients.”
“It seemed to keep the hair in its proper balance,” says Judy
Heath of Judy’s Family Hair Care Center in Bettendorf, IA. “I used
Be Blonde on a customer for a month, and she's been able to
work with her hair and not re-perm extra early. Nice.”
Concludes Charlotte Bowen from Styles by C.B. & Company in
Fairbanks, AK, “I love the shine and glow it gives the hair.
I'm glad that Goldwell came out with a product like Color
Glow. I feel that the industry deserves such a product.”
“It does what it claims to do, and it doesn’t build up,”
says VIVIAN WHITE OF VIVIAN HAIR STUDIO IN WINTER PARK, FL. “It is a very clean
feeling product. My clients are coming back with positive comments – they love it!”
