INTERACTIVE PANEL DISCUSSION
Main factors determining per barrel costs of
an F-T plant
Each of the members of the panel will do small 5 minutes
presentation followed by open debate. Topics to address:
■ Competition at the time of bidding between would-be
EPC contractors and underlying this, the competition
between suppliers of major equipment items
■ Price inflation from year to year in respect of the
equipment and facilities required for the plant.
■ Location cost factors e.g. local labour costs; good
or poor terrain; site accessibility
■ Economies of scale of the key items in the plant,
including the question of limits on the size of
oxygen plants
■ Life of catalysts, the costs of replacing them and
loss of production if plant is shut down for
replacement of catalysts
■ Costs of the upgrading facilities in the third phase
of the F-T plant to produce synthetic products from
the waxy crude produced by the F-T process
■ Costs avoided and costs incurred by using air
instead of oxygen as feedstock for the production
of syngas
■ Overall efficiency of the plant in converting
feedstock into liquid products
