Longevity 

We manufacture all our 

products to have a life 

span as long as the 

building or space they 

illuminate. The primary 

material used for both 

our luminaire and pole 

products is aluminum to 

resist corrosion and the 

need for maintenance. 

Aluminum will not need 

the periodic refinishing 

required of steel products 

that will eventually 

rust and corrode. All 

our internal parts and 

fasteners are made of 

aluminum or stainless 

steel. Our reflector 

enclosures are kept dust 

free and dry with the use 

of silicone gaskets to 

prevent light degradation 

from contaminants. 

Sustainability 

AAL develops 

our products with 

recycling and resource 

management in mind. 

We recycle all incoming 

packaging materials. Our 

products are shipped in 

easy to recycle packaging 

materials. Our state of the 

art finishing system uses 

eco friendly cleansing and 

preparation chemicals that 

are harmless enough to 

send to the drain without 

further processing. Our 

powder coating process 

eliminates the release of 

volatile chemicals into 

the atmosphere. The 

Promenade Series, 

like all AAL products is 

produced with renewable 

materials such as 

aluminum and stainless 

steel, and made in the 

USA.

The perfect balance of traditional design themes 

with modern lighting performance. 

Well designed lighting provides safe, inviting illumination of streets, boulevards, 

parks, and parking areas, enhancing the attractiveness of retail lined streets and public 

gathering areas. People feel safer using public areas that have smooth, even illumination. 

That means objects and people are easily “seen” in their environment without deep 

shadows and blind spots. An evenly lit environment makes it much easier for the human 

eye to discern shapes and movement. 

Until the Promenade Series, period style lighting did not address the need for 

quality illumination on streets and pedestrian areas. The “acorn” style fixture had become 

the compromise of choice, with its many shortcomings of discomfort glare, high energy 

costs, and poor long term operating efficiency. Now, properly illuminated streets and 

pedestrian areas are possible with the Promenade Series from AAL. State of the 

art optical systems are incorporated in classically style fixtures. The reflector systems 

minimize glare, while providing more usable light on the ground where it is needed. 

The Promenade brings you the advantages of high quality illumination, low cost 

operation, and energy efficiency.

Visibility 


How well can you recognize 

objects at night? 

Not very well if the luminaires are extremely 

bright compared to the objects around 

them. The pictures on the left demonstrate 

this phenomenon. Notice the difference in 

the “visibility” or clarity of nearby objects 

illuminated by a Promenade fixture. 

Disability glare or “veiling luminance” (the 

contrast ratio between the brightness of 

the luminaire and surrounding objects) is 

greatly reduced. Visual perception is notably 

improved with the Promenade Series.

Uniformity = Visibility + Efficiency 

A key element to good visibility when lighting an 

outdoor environment is uniformity. Uniformity is the 

ratio between the minimum to maximum footcandle 

levels in the environment. Our eyes only perceive the 

minimum and maximum levels, which is why a low 

minimum to maximum ratio is important. 

The Promenade’s focused optical systems allow 

you to precisely aim the light, resulting in a smooth 

even illumination of the environment. The uneven pools 

of light common with other fixtures are eliminated. 

Objects in the environment are easier to identify 

because the perceived lighting level between fixtures 

does not vary.

Controlled illumination to minimize light pollution and glare 

Conventional glass and plastic refractor lensed fixtures pollute the environment with glare and uncontrolled light. 

The Promenade’s optics also address local ordinances for disability glare. Avoid light pollution and stray illumination of 

adjoining areas with the precision reflector systems built into every Promenade fixture. 

Six precision optical systems let you place the light exactly where you need it. 

• Full cutoff horizontal lamp reflectors are available in type 2,3,4, and 5 distribution patterns. 

• Cutoff vertical lamp reflectors are available in type 3 and 5 distribution patterns. 

• Reflectors are rotatable on 90° centers for proper aiming. 

• Lamp wattages range from 70 to 400 watts in all standard metal halide and high pressure sodium lamp types 

including utility standards. The Philips QL Induction Lamp is available for 

virtually maintenance free operation with 100,000 hour lamp life. 

• The Promenade offers T-6 ceramic metal halide lamps to insure color 

accuracy and consistency, important for retail applications.

The QL Induction Lamp system from 

Phillips Lighting is a revolutionary 

lighting system. 

The Philips QL Induction Lamp System features longer life, better 

color rendering and “instant on” characteristics, 

compared to HID lamp sources. 

The Induction Lamp has a rated lamp life of 100,000 hours 

which means changing lamps every fifteen to twenty five years, 

instead of three to four years. 

• Maintenance free operation saves the cost 

of frequent relamping. 

• Excellent color rendition with 3000°K 

and 4000°K temperature available. 

• Instant on for security and emergency 

lighting applications. 

• Full electronic control for consistent light 

output and color under variable operating conditions. 

Three wattages available; IL-55 - 3500 initial lumens, 

IL-85 - 6000 initial lumens and a IL-165 -12000 initial lumens. 



Egress codes require proper lighting 

around the building perimeter.

Egress code requires proper illumination at the 

building exterior enabling occupants to get a safe 

distance from the building in an emergency. The 

Promenade Series has a full range of emergency 

and egress lighting options. Five egress lighting 

options are available: 

1. RST - The instant restrike ballast reignites the 

lamp immediately after power is restored. 

2. QRS - The quartz restrike option uses 

an electronic controller to energize a 

quartz lamp, providing illumination until 

the HID lamp is started or restored to 

full brightness. 

3. QL - An auxiliary quartz lamp that is wired 

to a separate emergency power circuit. 

4. IL - Induction Lamp system. Instant on and 

instant restart lamp. 

5. EPA-T - Egress Post top Adapter. Wires to a 

120 volt auxiliary power source and activates 

a lower-wattage MR16 in the event of an 

emergency or power interruption. Slips over a 

4 in/100mm O.D. pole and only adds 

3 5/8 inches to the overall height of the pole.

The Promenade Series is perfect for large sites such as shopping

Housing 

The entire fixture shall be A356 cast aluminum, free of any 

porosity, foreign materials or cosmetic fillers. Castings 

shall be of uniform wall thickness, minimum .188” with no 

warping or mold shifting. 

The top shall hinge open by flipping up two integral latches. 

The concealed latch mechanism shall be all stainless steel. 

The top shall seal the lamp compartment with a full surround, 

molded silicone gasket. The lens shall be one piece clear, 

injection molded optical grade, DR acrylic, gasketed top 

and bottom with silicone gaskets, and held in place with six 

clips for easy lens replacement. The ballast assembly shall 

be accessible by turning two knobs, and then lifting out the 

ballast module. The ballast module shall be sealed from the 

lamp chamber with a silicone gasket. Quick disconnects 

shall be used for all electrical connections. All internal and 

external hardware shall be stainless steel. 

Reflector Module 

The optical assembly shall be completely sealed with 

a silicone gasket to prevent dust, insect or moisture 

contamination. The reflector module shall consist of 

segmented, specular and semi specular Alzak ® panels 

precisely formed and positioned within a die cast aluminum 

housing. The reflector module rotatable on ninety degree 

increments for proper field positioning. Reflectors shall 

meet the ANSI-IES standard for full cutoff in horizontal 

models.

PRMS 

PRMD 

Ballasts shall be high power factor rated for -30°C starting. 

The ballast shall be mounted to a cast holder for maximum 

heat dissipation. Medium and mogul base porcelain 

sockets shall be pulse rated. The electrical assembly shall 

be installed and prewired in the fixture. Sockets for T-6 

lamps are G12 type. High output fluorescent lamps shall 

be powered by electronic ballast and shall be rated for a 

minimum starting temperature of -18 o C. 

Mounting 

Post top mounting PRMS & PRMN: the fixture shall slip over 

a 4 in/100 mm O.D. pole and be secured to the pole with 

three stainless steel set screws. 

Arm or wall mounting PRMS & PRMN: The fixture shall be 

welded to the cast arm. 

Arm or wall mounting PRMD: The fixture shall attach to a 

transition casting that is welded to the arm. The transition 

piece shall attach to the fixture with three stainless steel 1/4- 

20 bolts and sealed with a silicone gasket. For WMA36D, 

WMA35D, TRA5D, TRA6D cast arms are welded to fixture. 

(Not available with PRMD). 

tool-less Relamping 

The top of the fixture shall hinge open for relamping. Two 

integral latches shall be flipped up to open the fixture for 

relamping. 

Finish 

Fixture finish shall consist of a five stage pretreatment 

regimen with a polymer primer sealer, oven dry off and top 

coated with a thermoset super TGIC polyester powder coat 

finish. The finish shall meet the AAMA 605.2 performance 

specification which includes passing a 3000 hour salt 

spray test for corrosion resistance. 

EISA Compliance 

AAL is committed to complying with U.S. EISA requirements. 

All applicable products manufactured for sale in the United 

States after January 1, 2009, meet EISA requirements. 

Certification 

Fixtures shall be listed with ETL for outdoor, wet location use, 

UL 1598 and Canadian CSA C22.2 no.250. IP = 55.

unauthorized return, repair, replacement or modification

Housing 

The ballast housing shall be a one piece, high strength casting 

with an integral heat sink for the ballast assembly. Housing shall 

be A356 cast free of any porosity, foreign materials or cosmetic 

fillers. The hood shall be spun aluminum welded circumferentially 

to the ballast housing. The housing shall have an inner rolled 

flange to support the door frame. The door frame shall be an 

aluminum casting, hinged to the housing. The door frame shall 

be sealed to the housing with a molded silicone gasket and be 

secured with four captive screws.The lens on the PRM2 and 

PRM3 shall be clear, tempered glass sealed to the door frame 

with a silicone gasket. Vertical lamp fixture shall have a sag glass 

lens, the horizontal lamp fixture shall have a flat glass lens. The 

optional drop lens on the PRM4 shall be molded, optical grade 

DR acrylic. All internal and external hardware is stainless steel. 

Reflector Module 

The optical assembly shall consist of an die cast aluminum 

housing, sealed with a silicone gasket to prevent dust, insect 

or moisture contamination. The reflector module shall consist of 

segmented, specular and semi-specular Alzak ® panels precisely

Mounting 

The fixture shall be welded to the cast arm for mounting the TRA5 

and TRA6 arm. 

Wall mounting the WMA35 or WMA36: the fixture shall be welded 

to the cast arm. 

Arm or wall mounting other AAL arms: The fixture shall attach to 

a transition casting that is welded to the arm. The transition piece 

shall attach to the fixture with three stainless steel 1/4-20 bolts 

and sealed with a silicone gasket. 

Post top fitter: the cast fitter shall be welded to the yoke and slips 

over a 4 in/100 mm O.D. pole for PRM3 or a 5 in/127 mm O.D. 

pole for PRM2 & PRM4 and secured with six stainless steel set 

screws. 

tool-less Relamping 

The lens door frame of the fixture shall hinge down for relamping. 

Four captive screws shall be loosened to open the fixture for 

relamping (PRM2 & PRM4). One captive screw shall be loosened 

to open the fixture on the PRM3.

Cast aluminum adapter to side mount to 

a 2 3/8 in/50 mm diameter mast arm. The

Wall mounted arms complement the pole mounted arms, 

designed for all Promenade fixtures. For top mounted arms, 

the fixture slips 19 over in a tenon and is secured with three 19 stainless

arm, the arm has an integral fitter that attaches to the fixture 

with three stainless steel bolts. All the arms are prewired with 

quick connectors for easy installation. Hardware for attaching

steel fasteners. Seal the back plate to the wall surface with an 

appropriate silicone caulk.
