ACHIEVA<br />
ACHIEVA is western Pennsylvania’s<br />
largest provider of comprehensive services<br />
and supports for children and adults with<br />
disabilities and their families. Since 1951,<br />
ACHIEVA has led the way for significant<br />
change for individuals with intellectual<br />
disabilities.<br />
• Signed a management agreement with<br />
The Arc of Westmoreland to provide direct,<br />
day-to-day oversight of The Arc<br />
of Westmoreland’s operations<br />
• Developed and implemented a new billing<br />
and case management system<br />
• Developed an agency-wide training<br />
curriculum to create training standards and<br />
promote training opportunities throughout<br />
the organization<br />
• Undertook 27 capital improvement projects<br />
throughout ACHIEVA’s 42 residential<br />
locations<br />
• Cited in media more than 150 times, including<br />
the cover and feature article in North Hills<br />
Monthly Magazine, while ACHIEVA’s<br />

ACHIEVA Early Intervention<br />
ACHIEVA is western Pennsylvania’s largest<br />
early intervention provider, with more than<br />
50 years of experience with infants and<br />
toddlers. ACHIEVA’s Early Intervention<br />
team works with children who are ages 0<br />
to 3 who have either minor developmental<br />
delays or more complicated disabilities.<br />
ACHIEVA also provides preschool<br />
readiness programs for 2 and 3 year olds<br />
with cognitive delays to help them prepare<br />
for the transition to preschool. In Beaver,<br />
Butler, Clearfield, Clarion and Jefferson<br />
counties, ACHIEVA provides independent<br />
assessments for infants and toddlers.<br />

The Arc of Greater Pittsburgh works in<br />
Allegheny and Beaver counties to advocate<br />
for the rights of and full community<br />
participation for children and adults with<br />
intellectual disabilities.<br />
• Staff and volunteers made 259 legislative<br />
visits to discuss adult protective services,<br />
waiting lists, dental care, special education<br />
funding reform and proper levels of funding<br />
for community supports<br />
• Reconciled 167 educational advocacy issues<br />
and prevailed in all hearing and appeal cases<br />
• Provided assessments and services to over<br />
400 adults in Beaver County who were<br />
reported to be in situations of abuse,<br />
neglect, abandonment or exploitation<br />
• Distributed a report regarding the lack of<br />
access to dental care for individuals with<br />
disabilities to all 253 state legislators; created<br />
and distributed an educational DVD and<br />
brochure to all 8,300 dentists in Pennsylvania<br />
• Provided 54 training sessions for families<br />
across 23 western Pennsylvania counties as<br />

ACHIEVA Home Care offers home and<br />

supports that give parents and caregivers<br />
of individuals with disabilities a break for a<br />

Camp ACHIEVA<br />
In the fall of 2008, ACHIEVA shifted<br />
from a week-long summer camp program<br />
to a program that offers more frequent,<br />
overnight and weekend recreational<br />
opportunities throughout the year.<br />
• Served 242 individuals through ACHIEVA’s<br />
Day Camp program<br />
• Provided services to 187 campers through<br />
ACHIEVA’s Weekend Camp program<br />
ACHIEVA Vocational Supports<br />
ACHIEVA’s Vocational Supports programs<br />
are outcomes based and tailored to the<br />
needs and specific goals of the individual<br />
receiving supports. Areas of support include<br />
supported employment, facilities based<br />
employment and customized day programs.<br />
• Placed 105 people in community jobs, an<br />
increase of 11 percent over last year, with a<br />
record $1.3 million in wages earned.<br />
• Expanded supported employment, now<br />
offering services in 9 counties<br />
• Contracted with 12 school districts to provide<br />
school-to-work transition support<br />

ACHIEVA Residential Supports<br />
ACHIEVA provides many residential<br />
living options for adults with intellectual<br />
disabilities, including residential homes,<br />
life sharing arrangements and in-home<br />
support. ACHIEVA also offers young<br />
adult transitional programs to help young<br />
adults learn daily living skills in an effort to<br />
increase independence after high school.<br />
• Celebrated ACHIEVA’s Parenting Education<br />
Program (formerly ESPRIT) 30th anniversary<br />
• Supported 24 high school students through<br />
ACHIEVA’s Young Adult Transition Program,<br />
a 50 percent increase over last year; initiated<br />
a mentoring program for students to share<br />
