Library President Dr. Paul LeClerc presents an exclusive video commentary on Voltaire’s Candide,<br />

the subject of the Library’s landmark exhibition, CANDIDE AT 250: SCANDAL AND SUCCESS,<br />

on view in The Sue and Edgar Wachenheim III Gallery at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.<br />

The exhibition features all 17 of the known 1759 first editions of Candide, among other texts.<br />

The Schomburg Center presents COURAGE: THE VISION TO END SEGREGATION, an<br />

exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark Supreme<br />

Court decision that began the process to end legal segregation in America’s schools.<br />

In celebration of Lincoln Center’s 50th anniversary, the Library for the Performing Arts presents a<br />

special series of free public programs and the exhibition LINCOLN CENTER: CELEBRATING 50<br />

YEARS, on view in the Donald & Mary Oenslager Gallery.<br />

WINNIE-THE-POOH receives a mural makeover! In conjunction with the publication of Return to<br />

the Hundred Acre Wood, colorful new murals inspired by the original Ernest H. Shepard art now<br />

surround the original Winnie-the-Pooh stuffed animals and their new friend, Lottie the Otter.<br />

Forest Whitaker, Clyde Keener, and Catherine Keener visit NYPL’s landmark Fifth Avenue building<br />

to celebrate the release of WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, the Spike Jonze film adaptation of<br />

Maurice Sendak’s classic tale.<br />

LIVE FROM THE NYPL presents Ira Glass in conversation with Etgar Keret. The host of public<br />

radio’s This American Life interviews the Israeli writer about his short fiction and films, runaway<br />

piggy banks, bus drivers, and other, lesser gods.<br />

The BROOKE RUSSELL ASTOR AWARD is presented to Lucina Clarke, Founder and Executive<br />

Director of My Time Inc., a not-for-profit parent support center for advocates, grandparents, and<br />

parents of children diagnosed with developmental disabilities and autism.<br />

favorite titles online. With more than 500,000 public-domain books on offer, this digitize-on-demand<br />

program greatly expands access to Library collections, creates a digital legacy for future users<br />
