Dan MacCormack<br />

Dan MacCormack is a Halifax-based songwriter/multi-instrumentalist<br />

performing in<br />

a variety of contexts on pedal steel, guitar,<br />

banjo, mandolin, and fiddle. As a songwriter<br />

Dan has performed with Grassmarket, releasing<br />

three award-nominated albums. He<br />

has also performed on film and television<br />

scores, and produced music for various other<br />

artists in addition to his own. Dan’s 2014 debut solo album,<br />

Symphony of Ghosts, is inspired by the writing of Canadian<br />

author, David Adams Richards. Each of the ten songs on the<br />

album focuses on a different Richards novel, incorporating<br />

symphonic instruments with folk and Americana music.<br />

MacFarlane’s Rant<br />

Named after his grandfather Mac-<br />

Farlane, Mike Milne (lead vocals and<br />

guitar) along with Kory Bayer (bass and<br />

vocals) and Randy Feener (bodhran)<br />

make up this upbeat Celtic trio. Mac-<br />

Farlane’s Rant plays a mixture of traditional Irish, Scottish,<br />

and Maritime folk music with musical influences such as Stan<br />

Rogers, the Dubliners, The Clancy Brothers, and the godfather<br />

of folk himself, Tommy Makem. They have played some<br />

major festivals around the province including the Lunenburg<br />

Folk Festival, Kempt Shore Acoustic Maritime Music Festival,<br />

and here at Deep Roots. Their music will have you singing<br />

along, tapping your toes, and maybe even up dancing.<br />

Catherine MacLellan<br />

After releasing her debut album in<br />

2004, Catherine MacLellan earned<br />

immediate critical acclaim and was<br />

labeled Critics Favourite New Discovery<br />

by Penguin Eggs magazine in<br />

2008. Her latest release, The Raven’s Sun, won the 2015 Juno<br />

for Roots & Traditional Solo Album of the Year. Produced by<br />

musical partner Chris Gauthier and recorded in the woods<br />

outside of Woodstock, NY by Grammy Award-winning Danny<br />

Blume, The Raven’s Sun is another reminder that Catherine’s<br />

songwriting and musicianship are unparalleled among<br />

performers of her generation.<br />

Marilyn Manzer<br />

Marilyn Manzer has taught and performed<br />

music in <strong>Wolfville</strong> for 23 years and taught<br />

Kindermusik® for 10 years. This 2011 Valley<br />

Arts Award winner sings; plays piano,<br />

violin and recorder; and has been music<br />

director for Women of <strong>Wolfville</strong> and<br />

school musicals. Many young people have<br />

been led into the lively world of music-appreciation through<br />

Marilyn’s music lessons and Kindermusik classes. With<br />

Shannon Lynch, Marilyn is putting on a session designed for<br />

children under 7 years, called ‘Kids Play Music’ – a super<br />

fun session in which kids (and their adults) will sing, dance,<br />

and play rhythm instruments.<br />
