Dan MacCormack

Dan MacCormack is a Halifax-based songwriter/multi-instrumentalist
performing in
a variety of contexts on pedal steel, guitar,
banjo, mandolin, and fiddle. As a songwriter
Dan has performed with Grassmarket, releasing
three award-nominated albums. He
has also performed on film and television
scores, and produced music for various other
artists in addition to his own. Dan’s 2014 debut solo album,
Symphony of Ghosts, is inspired by the writing of Canadian
author, David Adams Richards. Each of the ten songs on the
album focuses on a different Richards novel, incorporating
symphonic instruments with folk and Americana music.

Named after his grandfather Mac-
Farlane, Mike Milne (lead vocals and
guitar) along with Kory Bayer (bass and
vocals) and Randy Feener (bodhran)
make up this upbeat Celtic trio. Mac-
Farlane’s Rant plays a mixture of traditional Irish, Scottish,
and Maritime folk music with musical influences such as Stan
Rogers, the Dubliners, The Clancy Brothers, and the godfather
of folk himself, Tommy Makem. They have played some
major festivals around the province including the Lunenburg
Folk Festival, Kempt Shore Acoustic Maritime Music Festival,
and here at Deep Roots. Their music will have you singing
along, tapping your toes, and maybe even up dancing.

Catherine MacLellan

After releasing her debut album in
2004, Catherine MacLellan earned
immediate critical acclaim and was
labeled Critics Favourite New Discovery
by Penguin Eggs magazine in
2008. Her latest release, The Raven’s Sun, won the 2015 Juno
for Roots & Traditional Solo Album of the Year. Produced by
musical partner Chris Gauthier and recorded in the woods
outside of Woodstock, NY by Grammy Award-winning Danny
Blume, The Raven’s Sun is another reminder that Catherine’s
songwriting and musicianship are unparalleled among
performers of her generation.
Marilyn Manzer

Marilyn Manzer has taught and performed
music in Wolfville for 23 years and taught
Kindermusik® for 10 years. This 2011 Valley
Arts Award winner sings; plays piano,
violin and recorder; and has been music
director for Women of Wolfville and
school musicals. Many young people have
been led into the lively world of music-appreciation through
Marilyn’s music lessons and Kindermusik classes. With
Shannon Lynch, Marilyn is putting on a session designed for
children under 7 years, called ‘Kids Play Music’ – a super
fun session in which kids (and their adults) will sing, dance,
and play rhythm instruments.
