INAUGURAL TRUNK OR TREAT “SPOOKTACULAR” FUN!
If you were looking for Christ this past Saturday, he was hanging with nearly 300 young people, parents, grandparents, young adults and
good friends at Sorrows’ Inaugural Trunk or Treat! God blessed us with answered prayer – GREAT weather – and we rocked it out with well
decorated trunks, awesome costumes, committed young people and a true blessing – a handful of merciful adult volunteers who stepped up and
saved the day!
Bragging rights for the next year and the top three winners of our Trunk Decorating Contest go to: the Amouri Family – First Place; Ghassan
Family - Second Place; the Almaki Family - Third Place! Next year’s challengers know they have to raise the bar high – these trunks rocked!
Look for photos of the day on the OLS Facebook page (Our Lady of Sorrows Parish – Farmington MI).
First, I thank those young people who stepped up to be Living Saints, and at the touch of a button came alive and talked about their lives,
after praying with each group that stood in front of them. This was the reason for the day. Halloween is fun – but being Catholic is MORE fun!
When you can get young people to make this kind of commitment, to show this kind of leadership, well then, you have pushed back against the
culture that seeks to consume us and really made a difference. I am so very proud of Lilian Lebednick, Kailey Alessi, Olivia Warner, Marisa
Kaddis, Dean Hubbert, Grace Pleace and the Sandoval sisters! You guys totally rock! You are a blessing to me, and the people of Sorrows.
Don’t ever forget that!
To the young people who manned the youth ministry van, got dressed up, decorated it and handed out candy – THANK YOU! Grant Prior,
Ryan Kotlinski, Carla Guerreso and Cristina Rotundo. You rock too! Meghan Meyers wore the GoodNeigbear suit at the indentured
servant’s car – and was a hit with all the people! You are all terrific – and also a blessing to me and the people of Sorrows.
I was aching for help and at the last minute a merciful number of people did step up – we could have used many more and those who did
help really worked very, very hard. I hope they had time to enjoy the event! I am so grateful to God, to Jill Mott, Barb Poniatowski and
Theresa Samonie for ‘womaning’ the caramel apple dipping and topping area of the day. Yeoman’s work and tough duty! Mark Lebednick
manned the kitchen and cooked all the hot dogs, while his wife Carol and Sorrows’ Dad Larry Alessi wrapped and schlepped and served! A
handful of you pulled off what should have been 10 people – and I am so very grateful for all your hard work and your commitment.
What a day!
We also thank the 34 who decorated their cars so beautifully, handed out candy, and really worked and made an effort to be creative and
fun! A number of parish groups hosted cars: Youth Group, Young Adults, Christian Service, Marriage Encounter, Dignity of Life, The Drama
Club and Athletics. Thanks for being team players and working to build community here at Sorrows right along with families. Also, the Achos
(grandparents) hosted a car so we had a beautiful intergenerational thing going on! Kids in strollers, kids, teens, young adults, families, seniors – we
had it going on! Dear people of God - that’s Church!
Fr. Paul said he loved the community around the tables in the cafeteria jammed with people making new friends! One parent said she
really liked that it was a midday event, so you could see the kids in their costumes. Another mom is already planning her car for next year! We
also heard second hand that a mom will make this her trick or treat for next year and forego door to door in the neighborhood!
