Dressing
to impress
Clothes can be an important part of the holiday
experience. For some, it is an excuse to treat themselves
to a new summer wardrobe or experiment with fashions
that they wouldn’t be brave enough to wear at home.
Others simply enjoy the opportunity to cast off their work
clothes and dress casually for a week or two.
And let’s not forget that holidays provide us with a
chance to dress up that is often missing from everyday
life. After all, very few of us go out for dinner or
dancing every night of the week when we’re at home.
We asked holidaymakers if they dress differently
when they’re on holiday – and whether their holiday
influences their personal style when they get
back home.
Four in ten holidaymakers say that they dress more
casually on holiday, 22% of women dress more
elegantly to go out at night when they are on holiday,
9% say they dress more formally and 9% dress more
provocatively.
A holiday can also have such an impact on the way
we dress that 8% of holidaymakers change their style
altogether when they get home. This rises to 33%
of Indian holidaymakers, even though 38% are happy
to go back to wearing their traditional attire.
Almost a quarter (23%) of people show off the clothes
they bought on holiday and a further 20% wear clothes
that remind them of their holiday. A further 15% of
holidaymakers even like to wear white and 12% wear
less to show off their tan after returning back home.

The French dress

h People from France are most likely to take
the opportunity to wear casual clothes
(55%), but they are also most inclined
to dress elegantly to go out at night (29%).
h Indian holidaymakers are most likely to
say that they dress provocatively (25%),
although this is possibly to be linked to
the fact that they are also most likely to
wear less traditional attire (12%).
h 26% of Indian men say that they dress
more provocatively at night and 18% dress
more provocatively during the day.
h 86% of people from Denmark say that
holidays don’t influence their clothing
choices when they get back home
compared to only 12% of people from
India who say this.
h Finnish people are most likely to show
off the clothes they picked up on
holiday (30%).
h 44% of Indian people wear clothes that
remind them of their trip.
h A quarter of French people wear white to
show off their holiday tan.
h Britons are most likely to wear less for
the same reason (15%).
