Other– Major Issues<br />
1.Small round metal can must be attached with adhesive or<br />
welded to each tool. That will significantly increase FOD risk.<br />
Loss of a single detection device would be a disaster on flight<br />
line.<br />
•The small items - apex bits, sockets are too small to attach<br />
detection device. As result only 80% tools detected in case.<br />
•Case is fixed, not practical to modify for work site use where<br />
tools may be lost.<br />
•More expensive than McChord system and other competing fixed<br />
location tool management systems.<br />

Simple Tool Presence Detection<br />
TEVIN– Major Advantages<br />
•Nothing has to be attached to tool. All existing Legacy tools may<br />
be used with proposed system, with no modification.<br />
•Has 100% detection of all tools including small sockets, hex<br />
keys, and apex bits .<br />
•Case is mobile, using new state of the art IEEE 1902.1 wireless<br />
technology, with five year battery life. Batteries do not even need<br />
to be recharged. Same systems used in weapons visibility by<br />
DoD and DoE.<br />
•Less expensive if only presence detection option used. Has FOD<br />
Prevention Options (TEVIN), supported by Oracle and CSC and<br />
will interface to new ECSS systems.<br />

TEVIN– Tool and Equipment Visibility Network<br />
TEVIN– is a real-time, mobile FOD Prevention visibility network for tools, equipment<br />
and people, proposed for McChord Air Force base. TEVINgoes beyond presence<br />
detection and is designed to prevent FOD before it happens. It consists of Smart<br />
RuBee Pads that hold all tools of any size, and report presence or absence of tool in its<br />
home pocket. It also consists of Smart Tools that have RuBee wireless tags manufactured<br />
in the tool itself. This provides real-time location tool information, and ability to find lost<br />
tools.<br />

There are three lights on each tool tray: red, yellow, and green. Red indicates a tool is<br />
missing. Yellow indicates a tool is missing but is authorized to be missing (e.g. out for<br />
repairs). Green indicates all tools present. More than one light may be on for a tray at the<br />
same time. For example, red and yellow together indicates a tool is authorized missing and<br />
a tool is also unaccounted for. Yellow and green together indicate a tool is authorized<br />
missing, but otherwise all tools are present.<br />
