SIGHTSEEING SPOT THE SHEEP One hundred and twenty individually designed sculptures of Shaun the Sheep, the character from the recent Aardman Animations film, are on display in Shaun in the City (24-27 Sep). Each sculpture has been designed by a different artist, designer or celebrity, including fashion designer Zandra Rhodes and boutique founder Cath Kidston. All the works are for sale, with the money raised benefitting children in hospitals all over the UK. shauninthecity.org.uk OPENING UP LONDON Open House London (19-20 Sep), the capital’s largest annual festival of architecture, returns with a celebration of the city’s buildings, places and neighbourhoods. Entry to every location is free, with guides, planners, architects and engineers dropping by to offer an insight into the design and building process. Among the locations on the hot list this year is Number 10 Downing Street, home to Prime Minister David Cameron. The public used to be able to approach the front door, but gates were built in the 1980s as a security measure. A less well-known government building that’s definitely worth a visit is Durbar Court at the Foreign Office. The stunning Victorian courtyard dates back to when the building was used as the India Office. London’s original skyscraper, the BT Tower, which stands at 158 metres tall, is also taking part. It is 50 years since it was declared operational as a communications hub and it is just as important as ever.
