GOALS of Senior Schooling<br />

1. Achieve WACE<br />

– Western Australia Certificate of Education =<br />

Secondary Graduation<br />

2. Receive an ATAR [Australian Tertiary<br />

Admission Rank] or Certificate II<br />

• Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank OR<br />

• Complete a certificate II or higher qualification


COURSE SELECTION<br />

• Before selecting courses students need to<br />

consider:<br />

– What they enjoy studying?<br />

– What talents/interests they have?<br />

– What careers they find interesting?<br />

– What does the University expect? Are there any pre-<br />

requisites?<br />

– Have teachers/parents advised for/against attempting<br />

some courses?<br />

– Are they choosing for themselves, or following friends?


How to Read the Grid<br />

• SELECT 1 COURSE FROM EACH ROW –<br />

all students must select 6 courses<br />

• University pathway students select 5 pink<br />

courses and 1 blue/green<br />

• Non University Pathway & VET select 6<br />

blue/green courses<br />

• Full course names are located on page 9<br />

and 10 of the course handbook


Graduation Requirements 2014<br />

• 20 WACE course units – or acceptable<br />

alternatives<br />

• At least one pair of units from both List A<br />

(Humanities) and List B (Maths/Sciences) in Year<br />

12<br />

• Average of C grade or better in 16 units – at least<br />

half from Year 12<br />

• English language competence – complete 4 units<br />

of English and achieve standard<br />

• Sit for WACE exams – unless exempt<br />

These requirements change for students<br />

undertaking VET or Certificate courses

OPEN CAMPUS<br />

• We are located on the grounds of Curtin<br />

University<br />

• We also have the use of Kingsbury Park<br />

during breaks<br />

• We are very public


TIMETABLE STRUCTURE<br />

• Each subject has two single periods and<br />

one double<br />

• There are 6 periods each day<br />

• When we have single periods there is a 5<br />

minute gap to get to next class<br />

• Mentor is on a rolling basis throughout the<br />

semester<br />

• There are no timetabled classes on<br />

Wednesdays


WHAT HAPPENS ON<br />

WEDNESDAYS<br />

• Some students do Structured Workplace Learning<br />

• Some students attend Curtin VTEC (TAFE)<br />

• Some Wednesdays have seminars running –<br />

these can be for academic purposes and life skills<br />

• Some subjects will have homework classes on this<br />

day<br />

• Students may have to attend if they do not submit<br />

work on time


WEDNESDAYS<br />

• Dancing classes are held for Year 12’s<br />

• Sports training may occur for Country Week<br />

teams<br />

• Students are able to use College facilities<br />

for as little or long a time as they like

• HUB – Offices and Study areas<br />

• General Studies Block – bulk of Maths,<br />

English, S&E and Computing<br />

• Science labs<br />

• Industry standard workshops along with<br />

demountable trades area<br />

• Commercial kitchen<br />

• Childcare house

• Goldfields Arts Centre – Dance and Drama<br />

• Computer labs and computer facilities<br />

Where to for Phys Ed? Students undertake the<br />

practical part of PE at various sporting grounds in<br />

the city

You will receive an enrolment package in the<br />

mail in the next couple of days.<br />

Coming from KBCHS or KWDHS – we have<br />

your address already.<br />

Coming from another school – please contact<br />

package out to you.
