The gaustec ® WHIMS<br />
Introduction<br />
<strong>allmineral</strong> world leader in jigging technology has signed<br />
a Cooperation Agreement with Gaustec Magnetismo<br />
Ltda. | Brazil in 2006, to market the gaustec ®<br />
Magnetic Separator WHIMS type (Wet High Intensity<br />
Magnetic Separator) on a worldwide basis.<br />
This equipment has been designed and improved by<br />
skilled engineers based on their practical experience<br />
of more than 20 years. Several features introduced<br />
to the standard equipment led to the best possible<br />
operational flexibility and easy maintenance.<br />
Leading Technology in Magnetic Separation<br />
A wide range of sizes starting from the smallest unit<br />
for research and process design applications (G340 –<br />
Minimag), with a rated feed capacity of 0.3 t/h, to the<br />
biggest equipment of its kind ever constructed, the<br />
G 3600 with a rated feed capacity of 200 t/h is offered.<br />

Main features introduced to the gaustec ® WHIMS that improve their performance beyond the known limits<br />
of Magnetic Separator Technology:<br />
1. Magnetic Induction of each Rotor Independently<br />
adjustable.<br />
2. The standard equipment is supplied with<br />
two AC/DC power supplies, one for each rotor.<br />
The high gradient magnetic field is independently<br />
adjustable for each rotor through AC/DC converters,<br />
in the operational ranges. This allows for<br />
rougher and cleaner| scavenger process steps in<br />
one single machine.<br />
The coils that generate the magnetic field on the<br />
top and bottom rotor are fed electrically independent,<br />
making it possible to have the necessary<br />
magnetic induction on each rotor adjusted according<br />
to the operational needs.<br />
This feature is also of advantage from the maintenance<br />
point of view, since if one of the AC/DC<br />
power supplies fails the second power supply can<br />
supply energy to all coils of the machine maintaining<br />
the production in emergency status, until<br />
the necessary repair can be made.<br />

3. Larger distance between magnetic poles<br />
One of the main restriction to make the maintenance<br />
in traditional WHIMS is the small distance<br />
between the rotors. This makes the maintenance<br />
of the bottom rotor like matrix inspection, cleaning,<br />
and retightening of the bolts, a tiresome<br />
and difficult task to perform.<br />
The gaustec ® Whims presents as one of its main<br />
features a comfortable room between rotors,<br />
making operation and maintenance of this equipment<br />
easy.<br />

4. Adjustment of the effective magnetic area of the<br />
magnetic poles<br />

Electrical energy saving is a must in the gaustec ®<br />
WHIMS design. The increasing demand to reach<br />
higher magnetic induction is an important factor<br />
as well.<br />
Looking for the wide application range the gaustec<br />
® WHIMS is developed for, a new design of the<br />
magnetic poles has been introduced to achieve<br />
both: energy savings and higher magnetic inductions.<br />
This possibility is offered to our customers by<br />
making the magnetic pole area adjustable.<br />

The pole size can be adjusted by simply adding<br />
respectiveley removing the yellow marked pole wedges.<br />
With a smaller pole one saves energy or can<br />
increase the magnetic field strength. With a wider<br />
pole the residence time can be increased leading to a<br />
higher separation efficiency.<br />

5. Two process steps in one single machine<br />
Due to the independently adjustable magnetic<br />
fields for the two rotors a cleaner-scavenger process<br />
can be realised in a single machine. This<br />
offers unsurpassed flexibilty with regard to product<br />
quality and recovery.<br />

6. Lab Scale Process Design with »MINIMAG«<br />
For the process development for new ore types,<br />
<strong>allmineral</strong> offers the laboratory WHIMS G340<br />
»MINIMAG«. With a wide range of magnetic<br />
induction reaching fields of up to 17.000 Gauss<br />
(1.7 Tesla), this equipment works with the real<br />
dynamic conditions of an industrial unit enabling<br />
the process engineer to safely develop his project.<br />
Four types of magnetic matrix, with its scale factor<br />
to larger equipments, are offered as standard<br />
design. Other type of matrix can be offered upon<br />
request.<br />
