As I look back over the<br />
past twelve months I<br />
simply cannot believe what<br />
we have achieved, and our<br />
Trust certainly has a lot to<br />
be thankful for.<br />

The year started with a concrete structure rising<br />
from the ground. Slowly, as the months progressed,<br />
the site transformed into the image we have all<br />
been looking at for the last 6 years, our amazing<br />
new <strong>House</strong>.<br />
A project like this does not happen without a strong<br />
team of people truly dedicated to getting our new<br />
<strong>House</strong> built; the tasks and challenges we faced were<br />
large and at times seemed insurmountable. Thankfully the<br />
entire team worked strongly to make decisions and meet<br />
timeframes so our families would finally have a<br />
new home.<br />
We are delighted and extremely proud of the new <strong>House</strong>,<br />
and it is difficult to put the entire project into words. The<br />
design created by Archaus is visually very impressive,<br />
the flow of the building and interaction of spaces are<br />
excellent. Construction processes and finishes used by<br />
Mainzeal are to an exceptional standard, they were also<br />
compassionate towards our cause during the process<br />
in so many ways. The team of consultants, Maltbys,<br />
Aurecon, Clendon Burns and Park, Holmes Fire Safety and<br />
Craigie and Associates worked together tirelessly to keep<br />
everything on track.<br />
The ‘icing on the cake’ for any project such as this, always<br />
seems to be the interior design. The design team was<br />
lead by Honour Creative and I think everyone who has<br />
personally seen the <strong>House</strong> will agree, our team has really<br />
excelled with the completed fit out has surpassed all our<br />
expectations.<br />
During the rebuilding project our Family Room at<br />
<strong>Wellington</strong> Childrens Hospital continued to support<br />
families. It is a room of respite, a room of healing, a<br />
room of hope and a room where families find comfort<br />
while knowing they are only steps away from their child’s<br />
bedside.<br />
Of course, none of this would be possible without the<br />
tremendous support of our donors and supporters who<br />
eagerly watched the process as closely as we did. We<br />
are truly thankful in the current economic times to have<br />
received such generosity and we hope we have respected<br />
their support fully by delivering a <strong>House</strong> they can be proud<br />
to be associated with.<br />
I have been grateful to have the strong support of my<br />
fellow Trustees, and our Building Committee who have<br />
faced every challenge and crossed every bridge with me,<br />
using their expertise to the considerable benefit of our<br />
Trust and of course, the families who will use the <strong>House</strong>.<br />
To our CEO and her team, who seem to have been at the<br />
coal face of this entire project, not only dealing with the<br />
building process, the financial tracking and ensuring we<br />
still continued operationally to accommodate families, it<br />
has been a daunting task for the entire team and we are<br />
indebted to their commitment to the Trust during this<br />
time.<br />
In my final words for this report I would like to mention our<br />
families. Until our new doors opened to them they were in<br />
temporary accommodation which was not to our normal<br />
standard. However, they could see each day when they<br />
visited the hospital their new home being created, so they<br />
appreciatively accepted the temporary accommodation in<br />
the interim. When we witnessed the awe in their eyes as<br />
they entered our doors on the 29th October, we knew we<br />
had created something special for future generations of<br />
seriously ill children and their families.<br />

HOROWHENUA COMMUNITY VISIT THEIR ROOM<br />
2013 was a complex year as we tried to manage the<br />
building project without interrupting our services to<br />
families. It was a year of huge challenges during which,<br />
I witnessed so many people rise to the task and I am<br />
extremely thankful for everyone’s support and assistance.<br />
Our team strength was certainly its numbers, diversity and<br />
determination.<br />
The actual building project consumed our year, no matter<br />
what role people had in or with this organisation, everyone<br />
was touched by it at one point or other. Although it was<br />
our year to be thankful, for many of us it was our year of<br />
firsts, the first floor, the first window, the first stairs and<br />
we even were excited over the first toilet! The year seemed<br />
to pass extremely quickly and before we knew it the paint<br />
was on the walls and the furnishings were being delivered.<br />
It is incredible to have an image in your mind for so many<br />
years and now physically have it standing in front of you.<br />
A personal highlight for me this year was being part of<br />
the interior design team. Working closely with Letitia<br />
Montford, a Trustee and Frances Fraser from Honour<br />
Creative we managed a vast array of concepts and colours<br />
to bring our <strong>House</strong> to life. Our task, and keeping within<br />
the budget, was made a lot easier thanks to the generosity<br />
of suppliers especially BM Scott for our Degateur floors,<br />
Morgan Furniture (La-z-boy) for incredible seats for our<br />
families to relax into, James Dunlop and Charles Parsons<br />
for supplying metres and metres of fabric at little cost.<br />
There are so many parts to the project, and only when you<br />

personally visit the <strong>House</strong> to see the size and standard of<br />
what we have created can you fully understand the journey<br />
we have just completed. It simply is a credit to all involved<br />
and we are delighted everyone is as proud of our <strong>House</strong> as<br />
we are.<br />
Although the building project was exciting, finding the<br />
funds to keep everything going was always the priority.<br />
Our generous room sponsors thankfully continued to<br />
meet their pledge commitments during the year. Suzuki<br />
decided our carpark offered them a unique sponsorship<br />
opportunity and the Horowhenua Community adopted<br />
our teenagers lounge in recognition of their support.<br />
The Dugdale Charitable Trust teamed with Milestone<br />
Homes and Van Baarle Construction to build a house in<br />
Carterton, which was auctioned as a fundraiser to sponsor<br />
a bedroom. All our room sponsors are mentioned later in<br />
this report and we hope you will help us thank them by<br />
supporting such caring businesses when possible.<br />
Once again, our events were a critical part of our<br />
fundraising programme. This year our Street Appeal was<br />
a great success raising 20% more than the previous year.<br />
Thanks to an extremely large team of volunteers and<br />
businesses, especially New World, deciding to reach out<br />
to their local communities to raise funds for us.<br />
Our Supper Club events were held in <strong>Wellington</strong> and<br />
Hawkes Bay. Both were very successful events thanks to<br />
the assistance of so many loyal supporters and sponsors.<br />
Guests were treated to delectable food at Capital E<br />
created by Martin Bosley’s team in <strong>Wellington</strong> and Dish<br />
Catering at the Opera <strong>House</strong> in Hawkes Bay. Liquid<br />
refreshments were provided by 42BELOW, Liquid Winks,<br />
Lion Nathan and Crossroads Winery. Carlton Party Hire<br />
ensured all our party needs were met at these events and<br />
other during the year.<br />
<strong>McDonald</strong>s Franchisees once again helped our cause by<br />
holding a golf day on a sunny March day, which raised<br />
significant funds towards our building project.<br />
This year we also held several events which were not so<br />
much focussed on raising funds. The first of these was the<br />
laying of our Mauri Stone to signify the life force that lies<br />
within the site. Kura Moehu conducted the ceremony and<br />
Donell Bullock from <strong>Ronald</strong> <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong> Charities in<br />
Chicago laid the stone. The first of October, the day when<br />
the <strong>House</strong> legally transferred back to the Trust, Kura and<br />
members of the Waiwhetu Marae joined us to officially<br />
bless our <strong>House</strong> at a very moving dawn ceremony.<br />
After weeks of setting up and establishing the <strong>House</strong> we<br />
were able to officially open our doors to our friends and<br />
supporters. At 11am on Friday 26th October Joanna Todd<br />
and Lionel Whitehead were ably assisted by young Kobe<br />
Uhlenberg to cut the official ribbon and start the new life<br />
of our new <strong>House</strong>. This was followed by a weekend of<br />
celebrations to recognise the huge amount of support we<br />
had received from so many.<br />
Lions Clubs had their special Saturday in recognition of<br />
their immense support. We were especially privileged to<br />
once again have Jindelle Beeck join us from Lions Clubs<br />
International in the USA. On the Sunday we opened our<br />
doors to the public and we were overwhelmed by their<br />
comments and compliments. We also held special events<br />
for significant donors, volunteers and <strong>Wellington</strong> Hospital<br />
Staff.<br />
On Monday the 29th October, we were delighted to<br />
welcome our families into their new <strong>House</strong>. Some had<br />
watched for many months, the <strong>House</strong> nearing completion<br />
and finally they could call it home. It is fair to say they<br />
were somewhat overwhelmed by their amazing new<br />
surroundings. The families quickly worked out where<br />
everything was and after a very long few years, life in our<br />
<strong>House</strong> has now returned to normal.<br />
We would like to give thanks for our incredible volunteers<br />
who take joy in the pure act of giving without ever asking<br />
for a thing in return. Cooking a meal, helping out around<br />
the <strong>House</strong>, doing office work, helping the families, doing<br />
our washing, picking up groceries; these are just a few of<br />
the tasks our dedicated volunteers tackle for us, and our<br />
appreciation is endless because their generosity is endless<br />
too.<br />
Mostly I am thankful for our families. Everyday I listen<br />
to our families, it is clear what we offer goes far beyond<br />
meeting their basic needs—as critically important as they<br />
are. For our families, our <strong>House</strong> is more than somewhere<br />
to sleep, our Family Room is more than a place to get a<br />
cup of coffee. Our facilities offer families an environment<br />
where they no longer have to feel alone. When they walk<br />
through our doors, families enter a supportive community<br />
where others understand what it is like to have, or to be, a<br />
child with a serious illness. Mums and Dads from different<br />
communities and cultures share a coffee, share a meal, and<br />
share their hopes and fears with other parents who know<br />
just how hard things can be. And this is why we believe so<br />
strongly and passionately about what we do everyday.<br />

Treasurer’s Report<br />

With the building project well underway at the start of<br />
2012, our Trust faced the tremendous task of ensuring<br />
we had sufficient funds in hand to meeting our financial<br />
obligations. We had committed to the building project<br />
while being well short of the total funds required in<br />
our bank (but we were fully covered by a pre-approved<br />
mortgage), in the hope the urgency of the building project<br />
would inspire our donors and supporters, without us<br />
having to incur considerable debt.<br />
Thankfully our donors and supporters did rally as we had<br />
hoped, with a continual stream of donations and grants<br />
ensuring we met our monthly commitments. Although<br />
there are too many donors for me to mention personally I<br />
would like to assure every donor and supporter that their<br />
gift, no matter the amount, is extremely valued.<br />
I would like to especially mention the ongoing support<br />
from <strong>Ronald</strong> <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong> Charities, who have stood<br />
by us through out this entire project. We were truly<br />
privileged to receive an extremely generous gift from Noel<br />
and Joanna Todd, who have supported the <strong>House</strong> since it<br />
opened in 1991. Another gesture of extreme kindness was<br />
a gift from Collis and Helen Blake. Our delight of their gift<br />
sadly turned to sorrow when Collis passed away just a few<br />
weeks after visiting our nearly finished <strong>House</strong>.<br />
Our Lions Clubs continued their amazing on-going support<br />
raising significant funds to complete the Lions Den on the<br />
second floor of our <strong>House</strong>. Our thanks to all the Clubs,<br />
and especially to Rex Bullard and Roy Peterson for their<br />
continued inspirational leadership of their campaign.<br />
So many businesses had pledged their support of our<br />
project. Given current financial times, I am astounded only<br />
one pledge did not fully complete their donation. It is a<br />
privilege to have the commitment of businesses with such<br />
integrity.<br />
We have also received considerable in kind gifts or heavily<br />
sponsored products to help complete our <strong>House</strong>. Most of<br />
which was used to complete the interior fit out well below<br />
budget but still to a high standard.<br />
As the year drew to a close, and our final commitments<br />
to the building project drew to an end. I am delighted<br />
to report prudent management of the capital project<br />
combined with the generosity of so many has resulted in<br />
our debt being considerably lower than forecast.<br />
We look forward now to the annual task of raising the<br />
considerable funds required to operate our new facilities<br />
with the overall objective of our Trust, once again, being<br />
debt free.<br />

Notes to the Summary of Financial Statements<br />
For the year ended 31 December 2012<br />
1. <strong>Ronald</strong> <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong> <strong>Wellington</strong> Trust is a charitable trust registered under the Charities Act 2005. The financial<br />
statements of the Trust are General Purpose financial reports which have been prepared in accordance with generally<br />
accepted accounting practice (NZ GAAP)<br />
2. <strong>Ronald</strong> <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong> <strong>Wellington</strong> Trust qualifies for differential reporting because it is defined as not large. All differential<br />
reporting exemptions have been applied.<br />
3. All costs directly attributable to the building of the new house have been capitalised. While under construction the building<br />
was not depreciated.<br />
4. The summary financial statements have been extracted from the full financial statements. The financial statements of<br />
<strong>Ronald</strong> <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong> <strong>Wellington</strong> Trust including Statement of Financial Performance, Statement of Financial Position and<br />
Statement of Movements in Equity cannot provide a full understanding due to their summary nature. This understanding can<br />
be obtained only in reference to the annual financial statements of the Trust.<br />

6. The full annual financial statements of <strong>Ronald</strong> <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong> <strong>Wellington</strong> Trust have been audited by BDO <strong>Wellington</strong> who<br />
have issued a qualified audit opinion in respect to the financial statements on 2 April 2013. BDO <strong>Wellington</strong> have audited<br />
these summary financial statements and found them to be consistent with the Annual Financial Statements.<br />
7. The Trustees authorised the publication of these summary financial statements on 2 April 2013.<br />
8. These summary financial statements are in compliance with FRS-39.<br />

The accompanying summary financial statements, which<br />
comprise the summary statement of financial position as<br />
at 31 December 2012, the summary income statement and<br />
summary statement of changes in equity for the year then<br />
ended, and related notes, are derived from the audited<br />
financial statements of <strong>Ronald</strong> <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong> <strong>Wellington</strong><br />
Trust (‘<strong>Ronald</strong> <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong>’) for the year ended 31<br />
December 2012. We expressed a qualified audit opinion on<br />
those financial statements in our report dated 2 April 2012<br />
(see below). Those financial statements, and the summary<br />
financial statements, do not reflect the effects of events<br />
that occurred subsequent to the date of our report on those<br />
financial statements.<br />
The summary financial statements do not contain all the<br />
disclosures required for full financial statements under<br />
generally accepted accounting practice in New Zealand.<br />
Reading the summary financial statements, therefore, is not<br />
a substitute for reading the audited financial statements of<br />
<strong>Ronald</strong> <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong>.<br />
Boards’ Responsibility for the Summary Financial<br />
Statements<br />
The Board are responsible for the preparation of a summary of<br />
the audited financial statements in accordance with FRS-39:<br />
Summary Financial Reports.<br />
Auditor’s Responsibility<br />
Our responsibility is to express an opinion on the summary<br />
financial statements based on our procedures, which were<br />
conducted in accordance with International Standard on<br />
Auditing (New Zealand) (ISA (NZ)) 810 Engagements to Report<br />
on Summary Financial Statements.<br />
Other than in our capacity as auditor we have no relationship<br />
with, or interests in, <strong>Ronald</strong> <strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong>.<br />
Opinion<br />
In our opinion, the summary financial statements derived<br />
from the audited financial statements of <strong>Ronald</strong> <strong>McDonald</strong><br />
<strong>House</strong> <strong>Wellington</strong> Trust for the year ended 31 December<br />
2012 are consistent, in all material respects, with those<br />
financial statements, in accordance with FRS-39. However, the<br />
summary financial statements are qualified to the equivalent<br />
extent as the audited financial statements of <strong>Ronald</strong><br />
<strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong> for the year ended 31 December 2012.<br />
Controls over revenue from Street Appeal income recorded<br />
at $70,881 within the classification of Capital Campaign<br />
income in the Statement of Financial Performance, prior to<br />
being recorded are limited, and there are no practical audit<br />
procedures to determine the effect of these limited controls.<br />
Accordingly, the completeness of Street Appeal income<br />
and Accumulated Funds is unable to be determined. Our<br />
qualified audit opinion states that, except for the effects of<br />
the described matter, those financial statements comply with<br />
generally accepted accounting practice in New Zealand and<br />
give a true and fair view of the financial position of <strong>Ronald</strong><br />
<strong>McDonald</strong> <strong>House</strong> at 31 December 2012, and its financial<br />
performance for the year then ended.<br />
