Language Arts
Math Integration with the PYP Exhibition Inquiry
A wide range of math skills and understandings
will be used as the student progresses through
the exhibition process. This is an excellent
opportunity for students to apply and extend
their math skills and understandings.
Students will continue to investigate and further their
understandings and application of “Parts of a Whole”,
including fractions, percentages, decimals and ratios.
We continue to develop number skills on a daily basis. We
have moved into time and shape and space, exploring 2D
and 3D shapes.
Reading
Students will continue with their novel study, gaining an in-depth
understanding of emotions and character development. They
will be reading and responding to their self-selected novel on a
daily basis.
Articles and polls related to student exhibition choices will be
used to further students’ understandings of the various
components of their passion and issue related to self, local and
world connections.
Writing
Written reflections on their daily process will take on a variety of
writing genres as students reflect on their exhibition process.
Developing questionnaires and interviews related to students’
exhibition inquiry with written interpretations will be developed
during class instruction.
Oral
Students continue to present their understandings, skills and
process to the class using their developing presentation skills.
Visual Expression
An important part of the student PYP Exhibition is developing
visuals which will support them in showing the results of their
“passion” inquiry.
Ongoing throughout the year
Operations
Students will consolidate and extend skills, knowledge
and understanding of strategies and recording
methods for:
Adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers
of any size.
Multiplying and dividing numbers involving four or
more digits
Whole Numbers
Students will further extend their skills, knowledge and
understanding of numbers representing quantities
beyond 100,000 and will further consolidate the
relationships described by place value for numbers
with more than five digits
Patterns and Functions
Students will extend and apply skills, knowledge and
understanding of using rules to generalize the
repetitive features of a range of patterns in sets of
numbers
