<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Martin</strong> <strong>Luther</strong> <strong>King</strong> <strong>Jr</strong>. <strong>Scholarship</strong><br />

The MLK <strong>Scholarship</strong> was established to recognize and assist a USF student who best represents the<br />

ideals and philosophies of <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Martin</strong> <strong>Luther</strong> <strong>King</strong>, <strong>Jr</strong>. A student applying for this scholarship should<br />

include civic, volunteer and academic accomplishments representing the student’s understanding and<br />

actions taken in supporting <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>King</strong>’s teachings and initiatives in an accompanying essay. The<br />

scholarship will be given to a current student who through the application process demonstrates<br />

academic excellence, community spirit, and articulates their passion and desire to be a positive force at<br />

USF and for the student body.<br />

Amount awarded:<br />

2 awards of $1500 per year, non-renewable<br />

Award is payable in 1 installment of $1500 in spring semester<br />

Selection Process:<br />

Student applications are due December 2, 2011. A selection committee<br />

will review applications and make a selection by January 6, 2012. An<br />

award presentation will be held during the University’s <strong>Martin</strong> <strong>Luther</strong><br />

<strong>King</strong>, <strong>Jr</strong>. Celebration week. The scholarship recipient will be requested<br />

to attend to accept their award.<br />

Criteria:<br />

1. Completed USF Alumni Association <strong>Scholarship</strong> Application<br />

2. Currently enrolled at USF Tampa as an undergraduate student<br />

3. 3.0 GPA – Transcript required (unofficial accepted)<br />

4. Provide list of civic, volunteer and academic accomplishments<br />

5. Essay that includes specific examples of how the applicant has<br />

furthered the goals of <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>King</strong> through education, community<br />

service and other opportunities. Essay should be no longer than 2<br />

typed pages
