MEMBERS and friends of Lymm Oughtrington Park Cricket Club celebrated
their best summer for about 15 years with a successful open day at their
Oughtrington Lane ground.
The club’s 1st XI – newly crowned champions of the TACS Partnership
Cheshire League division two – were there to show off their skills in a
special limited over match against an “Overseas XI” which also included
quite a few Lymm players.
There was also softball cricket for children and parents and off-the-field
attractions included a barbecue, bouncy castle and a chance to try out the
club’s superb practice facilities – including a 90mph bowling machine!
Refreshments were served in the refurbished pavilion.
Hundreds of local people turned out to enjoy the sunshine – and club
president Neville Woodyatt was there to present trophies.
The day raised funds to enable the club to continue to improve its
facilities – an electronic scoreboard is one of the next things on the list
- and also offered a taster for prospective new members, who are always
welcome.
Lymm Oughtrington Park Cricket Club has a long history. Its records go
back to 1884, but it is possible it dates back even further.
Originally known as Oughtrington Park Cricket Club – there was
another club called Lymm in those days – the club played in the grounds
of Oughtrington Hall, which is now part of Lymm High School.
The ground is unique in Cheshire in that it has a 100-year-old beech
tree within the playing area.
Barn conversion plan rejected
PLANNING chiefs have refused proposals to convert an old barn into four
dwellings – even though an earlier planning consent still exists that would
allow a similar development to take place.
Neighbours objected to the new application because the roof would be
300mm higher than the original one, approved last year.
The application was submitted by Chris Horn and Tim Whiston and
relates to a barn at Cherry Lane Farm, Cherry Lane, Lymm.
Three neighbours objected. They said they were, in principle, supportive
of the barns finally becoming habitable. But they claimed it was the third
application that had been submitted and each one had added a “little
more intrusion” for neighbouring properties.
They said the development would totally change a “beautiful building”
into a three story development.
Planning officers recommended the scheme be approved. They said the
increased height would not have any significant impact on the Green Belt,
nor the living conditions of adjacent properties. In addition, the previous
consent was still valid and capable of being implemented.
But the borough council’s development management committee decided
parking provision was inadequate and the development was on a blind
bend on a fast road.
