TARZAN AND THE MARTIAN LEGION
In Quest of Zonthron. Our Highest Recommendation. By
Jake Saunders. Art by Tom Grindberg, Michael C. Hoffman
and Craig Mullins. As befits the ambitious scope of the story,
the artistic presentation is unparalleled. One-hundred-thirty
new illustrations were commissioned for this opus, with contributions
by Thomas Grindberg, Michael C. Hoffman, and
Craig Mullins, on archival, acid-free paper, bound in leather
(banth and thoat) in one giant volume.
Published late in 2014, until now this was only available from
the publisher. We are pleased to be the exclusive second
source for the amazing project, which was co-published
with the well-respected Russ Cochran. In 1913, Edgar Rice
Burroughs contemplated penning a crossover tale uniting
his two greatest creations, Tarzan and John Carter of Mars.
He ultimately gave the idea up as unworkable, concerned
that he couldn’t do justice to both heroes in one novel. Russ
Welcome to our Christmas Catalog! We put this into your hands as early as possible,
to give you plenty of time to get those special gifts, whether for family, friends,
or yourself! Allow extra delivery time as the holiday approaches. Orders normally
take 7-10 days in the mail, but during Christmas the Post Office and UPS often take
longer. Our rush service can reduce this to 3-4 days. Place your order before noon
our time (PST), Monday-Friday, and it ships the same day. Gift Certificates are
available for as little as $10, and then in $10 increments.
2016 Calendars are here, beginning on page 23. We’ve got three pages of Outstanding
Christmas Gifts. I selected my favorite items that also might make good
gifts, Page 28.
PS Art Books Pre-Code Classics and Harvey Horrors hardcovers are now on
sale. Page 13. There’s also an entire page of super-hero Poker Deck Playing
Cards, more good stocking stuffers. Page 18.
This catalog has many new items that came out during San Diego Comic-Con in
July, including some great signed sketchbooks. A few sketchbooks and limited
editions are already gone. That’s why we recommend you get our weekly email (the
E-Blast!) or our bi-weekly, printed newsletter. These keep you current on new items.
They also include News & Notes by me, and occasional book reviews. See sign up
instructions elsewhere or ask with your order.
I’m very pleased to feature Eyvind Earle (1916-2000) on our cover. He created
more than 800 Christmas designs for holiday cards, beginning in the 1930s. In the
1950s he worked for Walt Disney on many shorts and feature films, including Peter
Pan and Lady and the Tramp. His masterpiece was Walt Disney’s Sleeping
Beauty. He set the tone for the entire film. Later on Earle specialized in amazing
paintings of trees, coastlines, mountains and valleys, particularly in Monterey, Carmel
and Big Sur area of California. His family has been producing beautiful limited
edition art books since the early 1990s. We’re pleased to offer these again. ~BUD
PORTFOLIO
The Complete Drawings by Mark Schultz
Our Highest Recommendation. A massive, oversized
collection showcasing seven transformative years. From 2005
works and private commissions. First collected in the five
well as the cover illustrations and special bookplates, now
STORMS AT SEA
Our Highest Recommendation.
By Mark Schultz.
This is Mark’s new, heavily
illustrated novella that explores
the border between
what we want to believe
is true and the reality that
we’d prefer to keep concealed.
From a crime-fiction
framework, it opens up
into a breathtaking journey
through cryptic history,
cautionary science-fiction and a speculative vision of the deep
future! Flesk, 2015.
ART OF PETAR MESELDZIJA
Imported from The Netherlands.
Our Highest Recommendation.
Petar Meseldzija first came to our
attention in the pages of an early
Spectrum and wowed me from the
very beginning. This is his first
comprehensive collection. His style
resembles artists like Rembrandt,
Frank Frazetta & Alan Lee--he’s a
classical painter but with an ability
to create dramatic scenes, and to
imagine the same, that indeed makes me think of Frazetta.
Yezbick. Harlan Ellison calls Carlson “a
cartoonist of the absurd,” whose work
stands alongside that of Winsor McCay,
Gary Larson. I’m also a huge fan and
eager to dig into this massive, unparalled
story behind one of the most innovative
and under-rated Golden Age artists,
classic children’s illustrators, and nonsense poets in American
history. For more than 50 years, George Carlson created
thousands of distinctive and dynamic cartoons, comics,
riddles, and games that thrilled both children and adults with
their fanciful spirit and nonsensical humor.
First exhibited at the Los Angeles
fashion what each picture is all about. Baby Tattoo, 2015.
Best Author, Bobby Nash writes a little
bit of everything including novels, comic books, short prose,
graphic novels, screenplays, media tie-ins, and more. This is
primitive and impressionist, but it’s nevertheless a pleasure
and Aaron Sultan. From running the first
photostat machine at Marvel Comics to
being the first to illustrate Wolverine, no
other member of the Marvel Bullpen had
such a varied and remarkable career
as Herb Trimpe. He drew licensed characters
based on toys such as G.I. Joe,
Godzilla, and Transformers, which went
on to become blockbuster movies. He
drew runs of super-heroes like Iron Man,
Defenders, Captain Britain, and even Marvel’s flagship character
Spider-Man. But he’s best known for his definitive eightyear
stint drawing the Incredible Hulk. This book, produced
with Herb’s full cooperation just prior to his recent passing,
chronicles the life and art of Trimpe through his own voice,
as well as the voices of friends and colleagues like Stan Lee,
Tom DeFalco, Roy Thomas, John Romita, Bill Peckmann,
Sal Buscema, Joe Sinnott, Larry Hama, Doug Moench,
Eliot Brown, Len Wein, Ron Frenz, Steve Englehart, and
his son Alex Trimpe. Their testimony to his talent and his
legacy of artwork leave no wonder why he has been dubbed
“The Incredible Herb Trimpe.” Twomorrows, 2015.
MELODY A Story of A Nude Dancer
On Sale! Save $3! By Sylvie Rancourt. In 1980, Sylvie
Rancourt and her boyfriend moved to Montreal from rural
Northern Quebec. With limited
formal education or training,
they had a hard time finding
employment, so Rancourt began
dancing in strip clubs. Until
now, the Rancourt drawn-andwritten
comics have never been
published in English. These stories
are compelling without ever
being voyeuristic or self-pitying,
and her drawings are formally
innovative while maintaining a
refreshingly frank and engaging
clarity. Whether she’s divulging
her first experiences dancing for an audience or sharing
moments from her life at home, her storytelling is straightforward
and never sensationalized. With a knowing wink
at the reader, Rancourt shares a world that, in someone
else’s hands, might be scandalous or seedy, but in hers is
fully realized, real, and often funny.
R CRUMB’S SEX OBSESSIONS
From the very beginning, even before the
sexual revolution made Robert Crumb
the world’s most celebrated underground
cartoonist, he felt compelled to commit
his sexual fantasies to paper. Once upon
a time, he’d destroy them, fearful of others
discovering his quirky tastes. Then he
found that baring his soul provided a sort
of therapy, and since has memorialized
every desire. Taschen, 2015.
JEFFREY JONES IDYL I’M AGE
Highly Recommended. Never before
collected in its entirety: Idyl, which
appeared as one-page vignettes in
National Lampoon. AND the successor
