The members of the Division of Instructional and Developmental Communication share interest in a
variety of communication issues related to the scholarship of teaching and learning as it relates to
communication and developmental issues both in and outside of the classroom. “Developmental Communication”
refers to the social, psychological, or ecological adaptations that have the potential to affect
human interaction.“Instructional Communication” includes any teaching, instructional, or learning process
that may occur in a variety of contexts (e.g., organizational training and development, health behavior
education, interpersonal skills training, crisis preparedness training) and within the traditional classroom
setting. These processes may include teacher–student interaction, teaching/training styles, instructional
technology, student behaviors, and student outcomes.
This year, due to the conference theme (Communicating with Power) we are especially interested in the
social, psychological, and communication power in communication as it relates to both Instructional and
Developmental Communication. As always, we welcome cross-institutional affiliation and cross-disciplinary
