Hi my name is David.

Look at the wonderful things I
can do…

My family and I also do lots of fun things
together

David has lots of special friends and cousins

David is just like all his friends except…
he sometimes has seizures.

David is not the only person that has seizures.
There are lots of other children and adults that
have seizures all over the world.

David’s doctor is
Doctor Dr Tiziana Aduc, she wants to
tell everyone what happens when you
have a seizure.

It all starts with a very special
computer in my head called my brain

Doctor …. says that your brain has lots
of wires and switches in it and
sometimes a switch goes off without
telling us.
This is when we can have a seizure.

I feel funny when I have a seizure.
Some people smell funny things just
before they have a seizure.
Some people taste funny things just
before they have a seizure.
Some people fall down and shake.
Some people just get a spacy look on
their face.

When David goes to the doctor about seizures the doctor
sometimes has to do some tests.
The tests don’t hurt but they listen and look at his brain.

A EEG test is when the doctor
puts some funny plastic circles
on David’s head...it sometimes
tickles and feels funny. It
doesn’t hurt.
A EEG is how my brain talks to
the doctor. It is a special
telephone.

Another test the doctor can do is a MRI.
WOW this is a real magic machine.
A MRI is a camera. It takes a special picture of your brain.

When you have a MRI they put you on a
bed that then goes into a big tunnel that
is a camera.
Dr Tiziana Aduc can even give you
some special head phones with music on
to listen to while the camera is working.

When the tests are finished the doctor shows
David all the cool pictures of his brain.
David can even take a picture home to show his
friends.

David is very brave when he goes to see
the doctor.
David’s doctor and his mom and dad say
David’s brain is one of the best brains in
the whole world

David’s friends and
family know that he can
have a seizure if he is
playing or even when he
is just sitting still.

Mommy and Daddy have told everyone
what to do if I have a seizure and how to
help me.

My name is David and I am a very special
young man who sometimes has seizures.
