The San Diego Zoo Global Lake Hodges Restoration Project Needs Volunteers!
The restoration sites are ready for you to place
a native shrub. We grow all of our seedlings at
the Institute’s shade house, and it’s bursting
with plants!
What is the project?
SDZG’s Institute for Conservation Research is
planting 10,000 native plants at Lake Hodges this
winter and we need your help! We are working to
restore Coastal Sage Scrub habitat, home to cactus
wrens, road runners and many rare and endemic
plants and animals. This is a great opportunity to
learn about native plants and help build healthy
habitat for our local wildlife. Our goal is to expand
the fire resistant native vegetation that supports
world-renowned biodiversity at Lake Hodges.
The coastal cactus wrens at Lake
Hodges need room to expand, so the
habitat we’re restoring is critical to
their success.
How can you get involved?
Contact us to RSVP for a volunteer day, then come help us plant! It’s that
simple. You’ll be helping us dig holes, install plants in their new homes and
water them to ensure they survive their first few months.
