PRIDEFUL VESSEL

the project
The objective of this project was to
construct a pair of vessels that not
only needed to be unified, but must
exert the word given to them. Through
the exploration of many materials I
finalized my process with aluminium.

to acknowledge the accomplishments

Pride was the sin of choice, but now my
mission is to represent something that
is prideful in an actual form. Also,
making spirals in a hotwire was an
adventure in itself.

The Prep

Through material exploration
consisting of blue and red foam,
wood is the last material that is
crafted to perfection before it is
used to make a mold to make an
aluminum model.

Children have unbelievable imaginations and sometimes
their minds compete with the toys already out
there. So my intentions for a toy is to create one that
is literal enough to be a ground plane for a kid to
work off of, but also be abstract enough so their
creativity stays limitless.

Starting off I kept it simple figuring out
where I wanted my toy to change. I then
comtemplated how long this first iteration
would keep the childs attention, then it
dawned to me; it needed something else. Of
course, it needed the gears! Quickly diving
back into my wide range of materials I
constructed the next form of the toy.

THE O-INN

stop in and have a snack
The O-Inn is a special birdfeeder designed to please the tufted titmouse, a
common New England bird, in ways that suit its preferences and make it
feel right at home with every use.

I picked to make a birdfeeder
for the titmouse
primarily for my interest
in their choice of housing
which is in pre-excavated
cavities typically in trees.

Incorporating the
titmouses nesting habits,
I really wanted try to
make the feeder out of
bark by hollowing out old
trees that have already
fallen, and then capped it.
weather testing
To make sure my feeder
was of facing the elements,
I weather tested it
on a bright, windy day
and sprayed it with a
hose from different
angles.

The final product drastically
changed the incorporation of
bark to increase the lifespan of
the feeder. Simplicity is key with
pleasing shapes giving it a
modern feel to nature. I live in
the woods and still have them
hanging around up to this day!
