Year 7 Rugby, Southam 0 Camp Hill 10 11th October - No Glee for Lee! A brilliant Man of the Match performance from Josh Lee was little consolation as Year 7 fell to their first defeat against good quality opposition. Josh was so fast to the ruck and maul, showing his more hesitant fellow forwards the way. The champagne moment was awarded to Patrick Fitzgerald. Challenged with improving his tackling, Pat produced the Tackle of the Match five minutes after coming on. He crouched, hit hard and low and sent the ball carrier flying back. Excellent rush defence by Camp Hill made it difficult for the boys to find space. We need to pass the ball more swiftly to provide more opportunities for the dangerous James Phillips, Cameron Power, Lennie Cramp, Ben Robinson and Tom Hill. We also need to cut down on the penalties conceded. The penalty count of 12 to 1 in Camp Hill's favour made it extremely difficult to compete. Year 11 Rugby 11th October - Southam v Camp Hill An impressive display of rugby today from the year 11s who secured a 12-5 win against Camp Hill. The squad were depleted due to injury/commitments missing Ibbs, Munro, Buckle, Bath, Marks, Thurlow, Knight Robinson, Bendzak and McCann. It's testament to the strength and depth of the squad that we managed to put out a full 15 with strong year 10s to support. Southam had a strong front kick off and had great territory from the kick. Armstrong and Palmer had got the lads fired up and big hits and fast line speed kept them pinned in first fifteen minutes in Camp Hill territory. Pressure told and Bowmaster led a 10m rolling mall over the line but was held creating space for Mario Palmers pod to score wide left. Dean Jordan (Yr10) kicked from a tight angle but hit the post. Camp Hill came right back due to our own handling errors. Their props and number 10 were very useful and cut the defence wide open after we'd had several opportunities to clear the line. Southam responded well and scored from a move that each player contributed to. From left to right probe after probe clawed yards and committed players to the breakdown. Fast ball was maintained down through the backs to the right where Tim Virr joined the attack for a 'Brown esc' try wide right. Dean converted an excellent kick just before half time. Although the score remained the same next half Camp Hill came so close on several occasions to getting points on the board. But the boys did just enough to keep them out with outstanding counter ruck and defensive play. To a man, a brilliant game! Thanks to Jays, Palmer, Nagal, Piestly, Upton, Wedtland, Brookes, Bowmaster, Holmes, Jordan, Armstrong, Giles, Clifton, Ward, Virr, Barnfather, Major, Caruana, Almond. Man of the Match a tough call. Nominations to Mario Palmer, Callum Jays, Peter Armstrong and Oscar Nagal but the award goes to Connor Bowmaster. 13
Handball - Friday 3:30pm Great to see the popularity of handball steadily growing. Boys and girls from a wide age group attending. YEAR 8 Football -Seventh Heaven against Kenilworth 8th October - The Year 8 Football team produced their best performance of the year to comfortably beat Kenilworth 7-2 at home. With a couple of regulars missing, there was a worry that we may have been short of numbers before the match, but some late recruits slotted in seamlessly to what proved a very accomplished team display. Two goals from Daniel Turner and one from Morgan Jones in the first half quickly settled any nerves and we soon found that if we kept the ball down and were confident in our abilities, we could play some very attractive and effective football. The interplay and understanding between players was firing all across the pitch, with some assured defending from George Jukes, Louis Pilgrim and Jonny Fletcher at the back, and great work down the flanks, especially from Man of the Match, Rob Armstrong. Goals in the second half from Rob Armstrong, Beau Shearer, Alex Costa and Ben Smith ensured the win for Southam, and even two well taken Kenilworth goals didn't threaten our dominance. Congratulations to the whole team on a very impressive team performance! Mr MacGibbon Year 7 Rugby - Phillips Turns The Screw 8th October - A brilliant series of performances from fly half James Phillips brought him the accolade of Player of the Tournament and Year 7 success at the Leamington Rugby Club event. Southam 5 North Leam 0 Captain Tom Hill produced a superb individual performance with some excellent breaks and fine passing. Centres Lennie Cramp and Cameron Power were a constant threat to the opposition. Kieran Caruana provided good possession for the backs and Ben Robinson's tackling is highly impressive. The forwards had Aussie style pace to the breakdown with Adam Mullen, Benedict Symonds and Howee Farrell to the fore. Southam 20 Myton B 0 Alfie McGinley scored after 90 seconds of his debut as Southam's confidence flourished. Harry Robbins was Man of the Match for his excellent low tackling from our tallest player. Further tries from Lennie Cramp, Tom Hill and Charlie Parsons secured a comfortable victory. Kaizer Ndlovu power and Charlie Knight's speed were a feature of this game, with creditable performances from Oliver Upton, Patrick Fitzgerald and the other Ben Robinson! Southam 0 Myton A 0 Southam kept their tournament clean sheet with a try less draw against excellent opponents. Josh Lee and Charlie Parsons shared Man of the Match for their superb and tireless forward play. Joe Quinney made several key tackles and Josh Rogers made a series of powerful runs. It was a pity that Stratford left before the end of the tournament, leaving some players short of game time. The boys have a friendly against Camp Hill on Saturday with a selection meeting on Thursday. Tackling remains a key quality to securing selection. Mr Eadon
