SOCIETY FOR WELFARE OF THE HANDICAPPED,
PATIALA, PUNJAB
Society for Welfare of the Handicapped, patiala, punjab established in 1967
works for the children with special needs, particularly the deaf and blind children.
The organization runs Patiala School for the Deaf, patiala school for the Blind and
Patiala School for the Deaf blind. The organization is a pioneer in North India in the
field of free education to special children. 600 deaf and 400 blind students oassed
out ofthe school after 10th or 12th and 40 blind students have done graduation/
post graduation. The organization imparts vocational training like candle making,
tailoring, embroidery, art & craft, painting, duree making etc and large number of
deaf children are vocationally self employed and doing good business. currently,
there are total 232 students of which 60 are blind and 167 are deaf and 5 are deaf
and blind. 182 children are staying in hostels.
In recognition of the services rendered by Society for welfare of the
Handicapped, Patiala, punjab for the werfare of the differentry abred chirdren, it is
being honoured with the National Award for Child Welfare. 2014.
