Have you ever watched a show and wished
you could decide the ending? Well, with
Showstopper! The Improvised Musical
at The Apollo (to 29 Nov; p. 58), you can.
In this performance based on audience
suggestions, no two nights are the same.
There is no script, score and set. Instead,
an actor encourages the audience to shout
out suggestions for settings – an asylum,
Sherwood Forest or the Arctic, say – before
voting for their favourite one by cheering.
As the show has already proved to be a hit
on BBC Radio 4 and at the Edinburgh
Festival Fringe, you can bet it will be
inventive. With any luck, the story could be
a four-part harmony about a tragic penguin
in wartime Britain. Whatever the plot, it’s
bound to make you giggle.
