Today Is A Gift

As many of you know, I have
taken on the role of the primary
caretaker for my 97-yearold
mom who at the moment is
winning the battle of the big “C,”
among other normal ailments
associated with her advanced
age. Her doctors are amazed at
her strength and refer to her as a
“tough woman,” and although I
have to agree and admit to carrying
her same trait, I wish at times
that weren’t so and for many of
you who have been in my same
present position, you’ll understand
exactly what I mean.
Despite all her aches and
pains, she is determined to carry
on, and while doing so has it in
her mind to clean out closets and
drawers to get her home in order
while she sorts through her prized
possession to distribute to those
she loves. In the midst of all her
findings she handed me a crinkled
up paper, turned brown with
age, of a poem she saved from
her school days. She said, “Read
this, isn’t it nice? Would you like
to have it?” — not realizing of
course that I could easily find it
via the net. But for someone who
has lived through the Great Depression
and much, much more,
she thought this was an insightful
message to pass on to me! Thus,
I wanted to share some intuitive
wisdom from Eleanor Roosevelt
with you.

If you Don’t Believe Me,
Just Read This

Many people will walk in and out of your life,
But only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.
To handle yourself, use your head;
To handle others, use your heart.
Anger is only one letter short of danger
If someone betrays you once, it is her fault;
If she betrays you twice, it is your fault.
Great minds discuss ideas;
Average minds discuss events;
Small minds discuss people.
She who loses money, loses much;
She who loses a friend, loses much more;
She who loses faith, loses all.
Beautiful young people are accidents of nature,
But beautiful old people are works of art.
Learn from the mistakes of others.
You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself.
Friends, you and me…
You brought another friend…
And then there were 3…
We started our group…
Our circle of friends…
And like that circle…
There is no beginning or end…
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is mystery.
Today is a gift.
