Theseasonhasbeenabithitandmistobehonest,we<br />
werequicklyoutoftheblocksagainstBasildonandthen<br />
stumbledatthenextfourhurdles.Thiswasthenfolowed<br />
upbytwovictoriesandadefeattohighflyingSudbury,so<br />
youcanseethatourconsistencyhasbeenabitabsent.Howevernotalthe<br />
defeatsareduetopoorperformanceandtheboyshaveproducedsome<br />
goodrugbyinplacesandthisistestamenttotheclubmovingfo<br />
goodrugbyinplacesandthisistestamenttotheclubmovingforward<br />
intherightdirection.<br />
AswealknowtheChristmasperiodisachalengingoneduetothefactthere<br />
arebigbreaksintheplayingandtrainingregime,Iam fortunateherethatthe<br />
boyshaveagoodunderstandingofwhattheyneedtodoasanindividualto<br />
keepthemselvesfitduringthisperiod.Alongsidethisoursquadhasgrownand<br />
the2seniorteamshavecompetitionforplacesthroughoutwhichisexcelent.<br />

thislevelmovingforwardandI’m gladtosaythatfiveboyshavebeen<br />

priority,afterthatitsaboutimprovingonpreviousyears.Lastyearwewon<br />

WehavealsoplayedfriendliesagainstOldBrentwood1sandlastweekOld<br />
Dartfordian1swhobothsaidtheyexpectedaneasierdayattheofice.<br />

someexcelentyoungplayershavecomeupthisseason,playersIexpecttosee<br />
playing1swithintime.Ouraim isenjoyourrugby,behighlycompetitiveand<br />

Thesupportthe2srecieveonthesidelinehomeandawayonaSaturdayhas<br />
beenexcelent,thankyoutoSam andChrisBowersforalsoonmanyoccasions<br />
beingfirstaidandalsototheplayerswhohavecommitedtowhatcouldbe<br />
anexcelent2sSeason.<br />

MybestmemoryplayingforSWF….<br />
IhavebeenluckyenoughtoplayforSWFRUFCsincethesmalageof5andhaveexperiencedmany<br />
highsandfortunatelynotsomanylowswiththeclub.<br />
Inthe“top2”ofmybestmemorieswouldbebeingpartoftheteam thatsecuredpromotionin2007<br />
atThurstonandagainbeingpartoftheteam thatwontheleagueasChampionsin2013andsecured<br />
ourpositioninLondonNorthEast2whereweplaytoday.It’sworthaddingthatmyselfandDiggawere<br />
toptryscorersthatseasonwith14apiecebutthat’sbesidethepoint–it’sateam sport...<br />
Butit’stheseasonof12/13whichisprobablymybestmemoryifplayingforSWFRUFC.Thereasonthat<br />
theseasonof12/13issuchahighlightformeandprobablymanyotherplayersandsupportersatthe<br />
clubisbecauseofthewaythatwewentaboutwinningtheleague.Alargecoreoftheprobably30or<br />
soplayersthatwouldhavebeeninandaroundthe1stteam squadthatseasonhadandstilhavebeen<br />
playingtogetherforquitesometimewhichgaveusarealystrong,cohesiveunitwhichisthebestbase<br />
tobuildawinningteam upon.<br />
ItIt’sworthmentioningthatthisteam hadanaverageageofroughly23/24thatseasonwhichisatrue<br />
testamenttothecoachingstafastheywereabletoinstiladegreeofmaturityandbeliefthatwewere<br />
indeedcapableofwinningtheleague.Asanyonewhoplayedinthatsquadknowstherewasnobeter<br />
feelingaroundthatsquadaswewerealunitedinourgoal,whichwasreinforcedandputontracka<br />
coupleoftimesbysometeam meetingstoclarifyourgoalswhichIsupposedemonstratesthelevelof<br />
maturitytheclubhadevolvedto.<br />
Doingthedoubleoverteamsmanywelestablishedregionalsideand beatinglocalrivalssuchas<br />
Canvey,Upminster,HarlowandWansteadintheprocesofsecuringpromotionwerealmasivevictories<br />
inthatjourneyandshowsjusthowmuchtheclubhasevolved.<br />
Theseasonof12/13wherewewontheleagueasChampionsandsecuredpromotionintoLondon<br />
NorthEast2,whichisthehighestlevelthatSWFRUFChasevercompetedfornowwilbemybest<br />
memoryofplayingtheclubbutI’m suretherewilbemanymoretocome!
