MEMORIAL DONATIONS
History & Governance Honoring Our Own Our Supporters Spotlight on Scholars Annual Programs State of The Fund
Listed below are memorial donations The Fund has received. The Ouimet Fund has a full memorial donations program,
which remembers people who have had golf as a favored pastime in their lives. Included in this list are several long-time
Ouimet supporters who died within the past year and ongoing gifts that remember people who passed away previously.
Among those remembered was Richard J. “Dick” Ganong, a proud Ouimet Alumnus who caddied
starting at age 11 at Brae Burn CC. He went on to play golf at Boston College and had a distinguished
career in the financial services industry. Mr. Ganong was a member of the Ouimet Board of Directors
for 18 years (1991 – 2009), Alumni Chair for ten years, and served on several other committees. Dick
was also a long-time MGA Executive Committee member and rules official. His family established the
Richard J. Ganong Scholarship in his honor 2003. Dick holds a special place in Ouimet history as it was
his suggestion that The Fund honored Former President George H.W. Bush at the 2002 Banquet.
The Fund also lost long-time Director, Peter Maich this past year. Mr. Maich served with tremendous
distinction as a Ouimet Director since 1995 in a number of roles, but most notably as Chair of the
Annual Banquet since Arnold Palmer was honored in 1997. He was also Ouimet Development Chair for
several years helping the original campaign, and served on the Ouimet Society, and other committees.
As Banquet Chair, he was instrumental in many of the facets of the event that have made it into the
largest golf banquet in the U.S., and developed numerous sponsorships including that of his former
company, The TJX Companies. He created an endowed scholarship in his late father’s name and
assisted The Fund in many other ways. He was the 2005 recipient of The Fund’s Richard F. Connolly,
Jr. Distinguished Service Award and, last fall, was honored with the Denny Goodrich Honorary Ouimet
Alumnus Award.
In 2013, as part of its Centennial Campaign, the Ouimet Fund formally created the Eddie Lowery Bequest Society. This
new group places a focus squarely on a new form of giving for the organization. The Society is pleased to recognize, as
members of the Lowery Society, individuals who have made a future commitment to The Fund through an estate gift.
Planned (or bequest) gifts naming the Ouimet Fund as beneficiary through a will, trust agreement, life insurance policy
or other deferred gift such as a 401(k) provide a vital and necessary resource for our Scholarship Aid.
The Fund was the recipient of a large bequest from the estate of Bob Jordan this past year. It was Ouimet’s largest
single gift and will provide a special reserve fund. We couldn’t be more appreciative for this generous donation.
In the event you desire to learn more as to how you can include The Fund as part of your estate plan and join this special
group of supporters, please contact Executive Director Bob Donovan, at bobd@ouimet.org.
We are pleased to recognize Lowery Society Members Duffy Brent, Robert P. and Theresa N. Donovan, Gloria
O’Brien and the William G. O’Brien Scholarship Fund, Dorothy B. Holt Trust and as mentioned Bob Jordan and the
Mix-Jordan Scholarship Fund.
