Purpose
Theatre acts as a platform where it creates an interaction
between the actors and the audience. Therefore, in combining the
life skills of drama with the actor-audience relationship, we aim
to create a new holistic paradigm in engaging life skills, through
the performers and the audience.
Children theatre is a form of performance which fulfils the
creative needs of children, cultivating their interest in the arts and
developing their life skills, while promoting informal education
in aesthetics and the arts.
Sipnopsis
The Day I Met the Prince is a play adapted by Kuo Pao
Kun, a Singapore playwright, based on the French novel “The
Little Prince”.
An enticing and imaginative journey of the
Little Prince and “I” in order to find the solution
on “How to save a rose from being eaten up by a
goat?” In their adventure, they encounter people
from different backgrounds having different goals
and objectives they want to reach in life. But, will
the Little Prince and “I” ever find the answer in time
before daylight at the Little Prince’s planet? This play
touches on issues such as individuality, imagination,
education, dreams, creativity, and freedom of growth
in the children’s minds and senses.

“Art is the stored honey of the soul”
- Theodore Dreiser.
I believe the School of the Arts, USM is a very special place because
is a community of people engaging together to be the moving force of change
as they play a critical role in contributing to its field of disciplines and social
development. As such, The Day I Met the Prince Children’s Theatrical
Production is a clear exemplar of how we work as one in contributing to the
arts and giving back to the society through drama and theatre.
The Day I Met the Prince’s Production Team has been working with this
project ever since May 2015, and I believe that with all the hard work and
active participation from the whole team, this show would be an awe’inspiring
performance never to be missed.
I would like to express my gratitude to every single one that had contributed
to the success of this exciting event, be it the advisor, staffs, production team,
the sponsors and not forgetting, our special guests.
Last but not least, I hope everyone will encounter a personal and special
experience after watching the show. May the arts continue to flourish in our
Director’s Message
Dr. D. Muralitharan Pillai
Project Supervisor-Director
Now, some 18 months ago, I was asked about my Teaching Philosophy.
I could have provided a standard answerexpected by many, as to avoid, the
dreaded reply to my answer, “What!? You must be joking”. My answer
was, “To Love, To Serve and To Give”. Well, I sincerely believe that, as an
educationist, if I were to “Love” the cause of “Teaching”, I would then, need
to learn how to “Serve” that cause of “Teaching”, and if I truly understood and
became that which I “Served” and “Loved”, only then can I, wholeheartedly
“Give” to “Teaching” with all my being. And, when that level of loving,
serving and giving is achieved in teaching” learning, then, that burning desire
can in turn, hopefully, ignite the flame of another to embrace that very same
essence of knowledge; to embrace that very same essence of learning.
And if, for this philosophy, I am labelled as “MAD”, so be it then. For “MAD”
individuals do make the world go round, as espoused by Galileo.
There will always be doubters out there, as such, never allow anyone to
extinguish the flame of your burning desire to enlighten yourself; to grow, to
blossom.
Dream & Imagine, feed that passion by loving, serving and giving,
and you may just find out, that your imagination can just make
your dream a reality, as in Kao Pao Kun’s “The Day I Met the
Prince”.
Tread the path of education & poverty eradication through the
performing arts.
Thank you.
