PREPARING FOR THE
CPA EXAM
The Accounting@Syracuse curriculum helps you
develop the skills you need to succeed on the
CPA exam.
A certified public accountant (CPA) is licensed
by a state board of accountancy. To earn the
prestige associated with the CPA license,
you are required to demonstrate knowledge
and competence by meeting high educational
standards, passing the CPA exam, and acquiring a
specific amount of general accounting experience.
The two most important aspects of becoming
a CPA are passing the Uniform CPA Exam and
meeting state licensing requirements.
“Graduates with an online master’s degree in
accounting can land jobs with private corporations,
nonprofit organizations, and the government.
Median salaries can range from about $62,000 for
accountants and auditors to more than $100,000
for financial managers or top executives—and
having a master’s will often boost those wages.”
—U.S. News & World Report
Education and experience requirements vary by
state, so be sure to check the requirements for
the state in which you are seeking licensure.
