Hope, an 8-year-old dilute 

tortie, is a sweetheart, but 

on the shy side and would 

fit best in a quiet home. 

Hope’s portrait hangs 

in our Spay/Neuter Clinic 

to give the “hope” of 

adoption to all that pass 

through our doors. 

Eenie is a sweet 9-yearold 

who we rescued with 

her babies, Meenie, Miney 

& Mo. She was so skinny, 

we named her Eenie. 

Meenie and Mo were adopted, 

but ... 

Sadie is a 5-month-old transfer 

from the Mayor’s Alliance for 

NYC’s Animals. Sadie and her 

siblings were found by a good 

Samaritan who brought her to 

a shelter. She is a sweet, blueeyed 

calico with some markings on her side and 

tail, who’d make a great addition to any home. 

Miney is still here with 

her mom, Eenie, waiting 

for a forever home. Miney 

is a sweet cat who is just 

a little shy at times, but 

would be great with her 

own person. This mom and daughter duo are 

so attached, they must be adopted together.

Harley is a 5-month-old 



Harley and his sisters 

were found by a good 

Samaritan who brought 

him to a shelter. He would make a great addition 

to any home. 

Mama used to be one of 

those kitties who would 

rather be with cats than 

us humans. Lately she 

comes to us to be pet! 

There’s hope for feral kitties! 

Brandy came to us from Animal 

Care and Control with her kittens 

who were adopted. Brandy has 

a foot fetish and attacks anyone 

who happens to have feet, which 

is the majority of us. We are trying 

to work with her but until then 

is only available for sponsorship! 

Turtle came to us with Annie 

and Missy II when his 

owner could no longer care 

for him. He was frightened 

at first, but with some TLC 

he has adjusted to his new surroundings. He’s 

a lovable guy! 

Charlotte is a 5-month-old 



Charlotte and her siblings 

were found by a good Samaritan 

and brought to a shelter. 

She’s a sweet calico, who 

would make a great addition to any home. 

Summer is a little 

sweetie (about 10 years 

old) who makes the 

most adorable chirping 

sounds! She’s a cuddler who just hasn’t 

found her own home. 

Derek’s owner died suddenly 

leaving Derek and 

27 other kitties to fend for 

themselves until a neighbor 

helped place all of 

them in various sanctuaries 

and homes. Derek is happy with us, but 

prefers his kitty friends. 

Kiara gave birth at ACC and was 

rescued through the New Hope 

Department. Her kittens were 

adopted and we are working 

with Kiara to socialize her. She 

has come a long way, but is far 

from ready for adoption.

Murray, whose family 

member became severely 

allergic to him, was attacked 

by another cat 

shortly after coming to us. 

All healed, he’s been living safely in Dr. Susan’s 

office up high in his favorite box, but 

now he is the Mayor of the new run! 

Finney and his siblings 

were left in a box to fend 

for themselves. He is 

still very wary of humans 

(who could blame him?). 

We’re working with him to let him know that 

not all people are irresponsible and cruel. 

Dusty is a sweet but 

shy little girl who 

hasn’t found a home 

yet. She would make 

a fine addition to any 

family. 

Fern is a sweet kitty who is shy 

and has a condition called Inflammatory 

Bowel Disease. She 

needs to be on special food and 

medicine. You can help us help 

Fern until she finds someone 

to take care of her by sponsoring her. 

Bob is sweet, but very 

shy. When people come 

to adopt, Bob hides so 

they don’t get to see his 

personality. You have to 

go very slow with him. We 

rescued him from another 

shelter a few years back. 

Cleo was rescued with her 

mom and siblings from Animal 

Care Centers in Brooklyn. 

As part of their New Hope 

Program, a plea was sent out 

when Kiara and the babies arrived, 

as ACC is no place for newborns. Luckily 

we had room for this sweet family. 

Abbey was abandoned, 

left in a box to fend for 

himself. It’s no wonder he 

has never trusted humans. 

We are still trying to work 

with him. 

Benny is a sweet guy but 

he is very shy of people. 

Loves his cat friends, but 

never quite got used to 

being handled by people. 

He’ll play with us with interactive 

toys, but prefers his own species!

Vetty is a sweet girl who 

loves to play and to snuggle! 

She is about a year old 

and would make a great 

addition to any household. 

Ziva had been stuck in a cage 

for 3 years at another shelter — 

her entire life! Finally liberated, 

she now waits for her own home. 

She is sweet and a little shy at 

first, but warms up quickly. 

Ziva is looking for somewhere to continue to stretch 

her legs and run after toys. 

Clank was rescued with his 

mom and siblings from Animal 

Care Centers in Brooklyn. 

As part of their New 

Hope Program, a plea was 

sent out when Kiara and the babies arrived, as 

ACC is no place for newborns. Luckily we had 

room and the family was transported to us. 

Buffy is five years old, but 

has already had kittens! All 

her babies were adopted 

and now Buffy waits for 

her own home. She is very 

nosy, but very loving. 

Mona is a sweet 10-monthold 

kitty who was a transfer 

from The Mayor’s Alliance 

for NYC’s Animals. 

She is affectionate and 

playful, and gets along with other cats. She would 

do great in any home. 

Buddy is one of our 

“feral” kitties, but he 

does let us pet him 

occasionally, and he 

follows our caretaker 

around talking to her! He’s a sweetie, who 

may be adoptable. 

Mr. Kitty had a few changes 

in his life that didn’t 

agree with him. One of our 

life counselors is working 

with him to help him be 

less grumpy—nothing that 

can’t be changed with a few 

treats! 

Fitty Cent has the best 

traits of his Bombay ancestors. 

Plagued with urinary 

tract problems, his owners 

couldn’t take care of him, 

and his vet arranged for Fitty 

to come to the sanctuary. We 

love this big guy, and he seems happy here.

Scotty was an indoor/ 

outdoor cat until his previous 

caretakers found 

that neighborhood businesses 

were using rat 

poison for rodent control. 

Scotty is about 11 years old and gets 

along great with other cats. 

Bubba had a rough life 

on the streets until a loving 

family took him in and 

arranged for him to come 

to us. Bubba’s living the 

high life now and loves to be up on our “catwalk” 

and look down on everyone. Bubba 

prefers his kitty friends to us humans. 

Betty prefers the company 

of her kitty friends 

to us. Have to say who 

could blame her? She 

also loves to be outside 

most of the time - except for when it’s really 

cold, then we find her snuggled up inside. 

Polly D was named after 

her extra toes. She’s a 

sweet girl who is a little on 

the shy side and is waiting 

for someone to warm up to. 

Polly suffers from food allergies 

and is adoptable, but would need 

special food. 

Baby is a shy little girl, 

but very sweet. She 

would probably do 

best in a quiet home. 

She’s a little less than 

3 years old and is 

ready for her forever 

home. 

Jellybean is a sweetie 

looking for a quiet home. 

She is about 1 year old 

and just a little shy at 

first, but warms up soon 

after. She would be a loving 

addition to any home. 

Hugo is another shy 

guy who just hasn’t 

warmed up to us humans 

yet, although 

he does like kids. 

Hugo is 4 years old. 

Angel was rescued from 

another shelter when her 

time was up. She was shy 

at first, but seems to be 

coming out of her shell. 

You can help Angel until she finds her own 

home by sponsoring her.

Rubio comes from 

a very dear friend 

who asked us to 

look after him. He 

is suffering from 

anemia and will likely need life-long treatment. 

Cami is 4 years old, 

very playful, energetic, 

inquisitive and also 

quite the talker. She 

is the type of cat that 

will follow you everywhere, 

and she just loves company! 

Houdini’s owner died and 

he was found in the house 

to fend for himself. He has 

asthma, as well as heart 

disease and is on medication. 

He’s an adoptable, 

sweet, special needs cat 

and will need monitoring for both conditions. 

Sasha, a sweetie approximately 

4 years old, was living on 

the streets—pretty friendly for 

an outside cat. So a neighbor 

called the sanctuary and she’s 

been with us since. She loves 

to sit on laps and is a special 

needs kitty with a heart murmur. 

Sammy is an old girl, who we 

found depressed and sitting in a 

cage at a kill shelter with no one 

even giving her a second look. 

PHLF rescued her with 11 others 

in jeopardy. At first she was petrified and striking out 

at us — now she’s a mush ball who can’t wait for the 

next treat! Sammy is being treated for glaucoma. 

Candy arrived at Animal Care and 

Control in Brooklyn and was frightened 

and very pregnant. She was swiping 

and hissing at everyone who went near 

her. On April 10 th , Candy gave birth to 5 adorable kittens, but 

was nearly impossible to handle. ACC sent out a plea for a 

rescue and luckily we had some room. Her babies have all 

been adopted, and Candy has calmed down and is happy! 

Tess, a sweet, 6-month-old female, 

was left in a cardboard 

box near a dumpster! It’s 

just lucky that someone saw 

the box moving and alerted a 

nearby animal hospital. Tess 

is ready to find someone who 

will treat her right. 

Dakota, a sweet, 6-month-old female, 

was left in the same cardboard 

box near a dumpster! Fortunately, 

she, too, was taken in by the 

animal hospital. Dakota is very 

bonded to her sister, and they would love to find a 

home together.

Pesky lived his whole life in 

Brooklyn with an elderly owner 

who passed away right after Hurricane 

Sandy. When he came to 

us, he was fighting an infection in 

his tail, which has now completely 

healed. Pesky would love his own home, but until 

then is available for sponsorship. 

R2D2, an evacuee from 

Hurricane Irene, is outgoing 

and confident, loves to 

be pet and especially loves 

belly rubs. He also loves 

going in the outdoor run 

where he watches birds, 

butterflies and squirrels. 

Francey is one of 

those kitties who prefers 

to keep us humans 

at a distance! 

Well, to each his (or 

her!) own. C’est la vie! 

Peanut was only a few days old 

when she came to us two years 

ago after Animal Care and Control’s 

New Hope Representative 

told us “she is at high risk.” 

Lynn and JoAnn bottle-fed Peanut around the 

clock, and when she was ready for adoption, her 

mom Tina was devoted to her. 

Sadly, Tina passed away, and Peanut came back to 

us. She’s a sweetie, and gets along with other cats. 

Annie came to us when 

her elderly owner could 

no longer care for her. 

Annie is semi-feral and 

prefers cats to humans. 

She loves being able to 

go outside and resides in a cage-free room 

with a few other cats. 

Abby came to us from 

the Mayor’s Alliance for 

NYC’s Animals. She’s a 

sweet girl who loves people 

- but she’s not crazy 

about other cats so she 

would be best as an only cat. 

Karla is an older girl who was 

found with a litter of kittens. Her 

kittens are grown now and in their 

own homes while Karla lives with 

us. Karla recently had a tumor removed 

which turned out to be cancerous. She is fine 

at the moment but will likely live the rest of her life with 

us making her as comfortable as possible. 

Frisky’s owner lost her home 

and could no longer care for 

her. Frisky was so scared, she 

stopped eating and was diagnosed 

with hepatic lipidosis, 

which required a feeding tube. After 3 weeks, 

we are happy to say that Frisky is now eating 

without the tube and is recovering well.

Sandy, an adorable cat, 

and her son, Becker (adopted) 

were evacuees from Super 

Storm Sandy. Sandy is 

a little shy at first, but once 

she gets to know you, will 

approach you for pets, belly rubs and treats. 

Lulu is a Sandy refugee. 

When her owner was displaced 

from their home, Lulu 

and her brothers, Blondie 

and Tommy, found themselves at the Nassau 

Emergency Shelter. Blondie and Tommy were 

adopted, but Lulu is still with us. 

Shadow’s last owner 

lost her home and 

so, unfortunately, did 

Shadow. 

Shadow has adjusted well and is living in one 

of our cage-free rooms, with her buddy, Frisky. 

Rhett is a 2 1 /2-year-old, handsome 

devil and is affectionate 

and playful. His markings 

are some of the most 

beautiful we have ever seen. 

Rhett was adopted as 

a kitten and returned to a shelter where his time 

was running out. He still waits for his forever home. 

Copper was rescued from a 

hoarding situation. She was 

untouchable when she first 

came to us. Now she headbutts 

us for treats! Copper is 

11 years old. 

Kimba is a 4-year-old tortoiseshell 

who is extremely 

shy of people. We are 

slowly getting her to trust 

us, but at the moment she 

prefers her cat friends. You can help us help Kimba 

by sponsoring her. 

Figaro came to us 

with her sister, Blue 

Fairy (right). Both are 

a little on the shy side 

and would do best in 

a quiet household. 

Blue Fairy is a sweet, shy 

girl who needs a little time to 

warm up. Like her sister, Figaro, 

she would do best in a 

quiet home.

Cee Cee is a 9-year-old girl 

whose owners dropped her off 

at a kill shelter full of fleas with 

a resulting terrible dermatitis, 

causing hair loss from scratching 

so much. Cee Cee is now flea free and knows 

that even if she never finds a home, she will always 

have one with us. 

Danny Boy found himself out 

of a home, when his owner 

suddenly passed away. With 

no one willing to care for him, 

Danny Boy is looking for a 

new home. 

He’s a sweet Persian who just had his whole 

world turned upside-down. 

Oreo and Brownie are two sweet surprises we trapped when we were trying 

to trap a kitty that was in desperate need of medical attention (we got 

him too!). 

We thought they were feral, but were proven wrong! 

These two are about 3-4 months old and are very sweet. Brownie is a 

little bit more shy than Oreo (black and white). They do not have to be 

adopted together. 

Misty was rescued last week 

from Animal Care Centers, 

where, at 16 years of age, 

her owners had dumped her. 

Other than needing a special 

diet, Misty is healthy. 

She is looking for a place to spend her senior 

years. 

Leo was rescued from Animal 

Care and Control after his owners 

relinquished him. This gorgeous, 

outgoing Maine Coon 

mix is about a year old and very 

friendly and playful! 

Blackberry, a beautiful boy, 

came in with his brother, Blueberry, 

as transfers from The 

Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s 

Animals. Two sweet boys that 

would do great in most homes. 

They do not have to be adopted together. 

Blueberry was transferred 

to us with his brother, Blackberry, 

by the Mayor’s Alliance 

for NYC’s Animals. 

This gorgeous boy is a 

sweetie! He’s about a year 

old and would do great in a 

quiet, loving home.

Pea and Pod, 6-month-old sweeties, were transfers from The 

Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals. Pod is a very affectionate 

kitten with all the playfulness and sweetness you could 

ever want and would be great with kids. Pea would also be 

awesome in any home. He’s a friendly, sweet and affectionate 

guy! Pea and Pod do not have to be adopted together. 

Topanga gave birth at Animal Care and Control and her kittens were at such high 

risk for disease that one didn’t make it. She and her remaining kitten were transferred 

to us so that she could nurse in peace. Topanga was born with only one 

kidney (the other kidney is fine and she can lead a normal, long, healthy life) but is 

otherwise as normal as they come. She is a really sweet kitty who deserves the 

chance of a forever home. 

Molly was transferred to us from the Brooklyn location of Animal Care Centers. 

Molly was an outdoor kitty, who was brought there by a good Samaritan. 

Molly was also very pregnant and gave birth the next day. Neonates are 

very susceptible to disease in a large shelter like ACC, so Molly and her babies 

(Donatella, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Davinci) were transferred to us. 

Molly isn’t too fond of humans so won’t be available for adoption anytime soon, but she will have the ability 

to go outside in one of our catios and experience the outdoors in safety without wondering where her next 

meal will be. 

Chico was declawed on all four paws by his previous owner, who then dumped him 

at the pound because they “had no time for him.” Chico was slated to be euthanized 

when The Paw Project stepped in to pledge for his rescue. 

The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals also stepped in and sent The Wheels of 

Hope to rescue Chico and get him to a safe place until we had room. While he was 

boarding at the vet, The Mayor’s Alliance used The Paw Project pledge for a full 

work-up on Chico, including much needed dentistry. 

Chico was adopted out, but most likely due to being declawed, Chico doesn’t use 

the litter box and was, understandably, returned to us. 

Please don’t declaw. Chico lost his claws, his home and nearly his life because of it. Please don’t declaw!

Mookie is approximately 8 years old. She was declawed by her previous owner and 

dumped at Animal Care and Control. She was rescued by The Paw Project just hours 

before she was slated to be euthanized and then transferred to us. 

Mookie is a LOVEBUG and is extremely affectionate. However, as is common with declawed 

cats, she tends to bite, but it is mostly love bites. We think she would do best with 

an experienced owner and no kids. Please don’t declaw! 

Amber was a pregnant stray who ended up in a good Samaritan’s yard when she was 

having trouble giving birth. Rushed to a nearby emergency hospital, Amber’s three 

kittens (Winkin, Blinken and Nod) were safely delivered and Amber was transferred 

to us from the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals while she nursed her kittens. 

She is unsure of the human race, so at the moment, is not available for adoption. 

Tiger Lily was transferred to 

us from the Mayor’s Alliance 

for New York City’s Animals. 

She’s a really sweet girl with 

a history of bladder stones. 

She is on a prescription diet, 

so that stones will no longer 

form. 

Clancy was rescued by 

our friends at the Mayor’s 


He’s a sweet boy 

with a gorgeous plume of 

a tail. He would make a 

fine addition to a loving 

home. 

Rosie and Dixon would have spent a life on the streets if not for the cries of their 

sister, Cooper (aptly named after getting stuck in the engine of a Mini Cooper). 

Cooper’s meow alerted our rescuers, who were able to trap the rest of Cooper’s 

family, including mom, Terra. 

They are a tad shy, but are quickly coming around. It is heartwarming to see 

them playing with toys instead of out in the frigid temperatures, fending for food. 

It would be even more heartwarming to see them adopted, like their sister Cooper was!

Ava was rescued by our friends at the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals. She 

is an adorable, affectionate kitten, looking for someone to snuggle with. She 

is waiting for her forever home. 

Frida Kahlo, an 8-year-old beauty, was turned into a kill shelter by her owners. 

We rescued her about 6 months ago and can’t understand why they wouldn’t 

want her. Frida is sweet and has a lot of love to give in a new forever home. 

Marigold was living in his owner’s house for a year after she was placed in a 

nursing home. With no one but a caretaker who came in once a day to feed him, 

Marigold grew lonely until he was placed with us. He prefers his kitty friends 

and, as you can see in his photo, loves the catio! 

Frick, Frack and Frodo are a sweet trio that was cared for by a 

neighbor on our block. When she moved to Florida, she asked a 

next-door neighbor to feed them and sent that neighbor money to 

do so. The neighbor never fed them, because they came to us looking 

for food! As much as we would love to bring them inside, they 

are feral and would not be happy. They are spayed/neutered and 

vaccinated, and we have devised a method of trapping them if they 

need medical care. Frick had dental work, and Frodo had some glass in his paw. We built them a shelter, 

that has a heated water bowl, heating pads and straw. We can’t touch them, but we love’em to bits.
