AT NFAI, PUNE<br />

The National Film Archive of India (NFAI) in collaboration with Film<br />

Heritage Foundation and International Federation of Film Archives<br />

(FIAF) will conduct a ten-day Film Preservation and Restoration<br />

Workshop at the NFAI, Pune to provide film preservation and<br />

restoration training to help preserve India’s cinematic heritage.<br />

Application forms will be available from November 23, 2015 on:<br />

Applications are open to India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh<br />

NATIONAL <strong>FILM</strong> ARCHIVE OF<br />

<strong>INDIA</strong> (NFAI)<br />

The NFAI is the largest film archive in<br />

India. It is the principal custodian of<br />

one of the most prolific and diverse film<br />

patrimonies in the world. The NFAI’s<br />

Charter includes the promotion of film<br />

scholarship and research on cinema,<br />

furthering the global outreach of Indian<br />

cinema and showcasing the wealth of<br />

India’s cinematic legacy to audiences<br />

across the country.<br />

<strong>FILM</strong> HERITAGE FOUNDATION<br />

Film Heritage Foundation is a not-forprofit<br />

organization set up by Shivendra<br />

Singh Dungarpur in 2014. It is dedicated<br />

to supporting the conservation,<br />

preservation and restoration of the<br />

moving image and to developing<br />

interdisciplinary programs to create<br />

awareness about the language of cinema.<br />

FIAF<br />

The International Federation of Film<br />

Archives (FIAF), has been dedicated<br />

to the preservation of, and access to,<br />

the world’s film heritage since 1938.<br />

It brings together the world’s leading<br />

non-profit institutions in this field. Its 155<br />

affiliated film archives in 75 countries<br />

are committed to the rescue, collection,<br />

preservation, screening, and promotion<br />

of films, which are valued both as works<br />

of art and culture and as historical<br />

documents.<br />

THE <strong>FILM</strong> FOUNDATION’s<br />

WORLD CINEMA PROJECT<br />

Created in 1990 by Martin Scorsese,<br />

The Film Foundation (TFF) is dedicated<br />

to preserving motion picture history. By<br />

working in partnership with archives<br />

and studios, the foundation has helped<br />

to restore nearly 700 films, making<br />

them available to international festivals,<br />

museums, and schools. TFF’s World<br />

Cinema Project has restored 26 films<br />

from 19 different countries, representing<br />

the rich diversity of world cinema. The<br />

foundation’s free educational curriculum,<br />

The Story of Movies, teaches young<br />

people about film language and history.<br />

GEORGE EASTMAN MUSEUM<br />

One of the major film museums in the<br />

United States – the only one equipped<br />

for the projection of 35 mm nitrate film<br />

as well as a digital restoration laboratory.<br />

It is also the world’s largest repository<br />

on the history of cinema technology from<br />

Edison and Lumière to the Technicolor<br />

Archives and the first Pixar prototype.<br />

SELZNICK SCHOOL OF <strong>FILM</strong><br />

<strong>PRESERVATION</strong><br />

Established in 1996, the L. Jeffrey Selznick<br />

School of Film Preservation is a two-year<br />

graduate program held in partnership with<br />

the University of Rochester. The course<br />

is also available as a one-year certificate<br />

program with intensive training in film<br />

chemistry and conservation, curatorship<br />

and cultural management.<br />

L’IMMAGINE RITROVATA<br />

L’Immagine Ritrovata is a highly<br />

specialized film restoration laboratory,<br />

born and developed thanks to Cineteca<br />

di Bologna. Thanks to its innovative<br />

methodologies, it is a leading laboratory<br />

in the field and it is designed for the<br />

restoration of film from every cinematic<br />

age. They have restored films of Charles<br />

Chaplin, Jean Renoir, Federico Fellini,<br />

Jacques Tati, Luchino Visconti, Yasujiro<br />

Ozu, Sergei Leone, and Ritwik Ghatak.<br />

The deadline for submitting the application form: MONDAY, JANUARY 11 TH , <strong>2016</strong>.<br />

Late applications will be rejected. For logistic reasons all contacts must be established within and not<br />

later than MONDAY, JANUARY 11 TH , <strong>2016</strong>.<br />

PARTICIPATION FEE:<br />

Rs. 25,000/- inclusive of accommodation for the duration of the course<br />

Note:<br />

The fee includes lunch and two tea / coffee breaks with snacks every day from February 26 th – March 06 th ,<br />

<strong>2016</strong> and accommodation per person on twin sharing basis.<br />

If applications exceed the maximum number of participants allowed, a selection will be made. If<br />

your application is accepted, you will be informed by email by Friday, January 22 nd , <strong>2016</strong>.<br />

Selected participants must pay their participation fees in advance, and not later than Saturday,<br />

January 30 th , <strong>2016</strong>.<br />

Details of the mode of payment will be shared on email. Fees once paid will not be refunded.<br />

Selected participants who do not pay their fee by the due date will be excluded and replaced by the<br />

next eligible candidate in the waiting list.
