“SUNY Orange is a great place to transition to the civilian sector. By using
your veterans benefits, you can gain or update your education to compete
for the jobs that you want. I was able to use my benefits to fully fund my
education at SUNY Orange and prepare for my future. The convenience of
on-site daycare, small class sizes and friendly faculty made going back to
school possible. I feel the College is a great stepping stone to transition to
the civilian sector or to prepare for an occupation outside of the military.”
My STORY
“I was like a lot of other kids when I graduated from high school.
I didn’t know what I wanted, but I thought I needed to go to
college. I wasn’t ready for a four-year commitment,
so I went away to another community college.
But that school wasn’t a good fit for me. I came
back home. I worked for awhile before I enrolled
in SUNY Orange’s early childhood education program. But, I just
wasn’t passionate about that either. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to
do. As I got to know my professors, we talked about my interests
and talents. They opened my eyes to other possibilities and
suggested that I think about engineering. Now, I’ve discovered
my true passion. I’ve developed an even stronger bond with
my professors, and the students in the engineering program
are all very close. We help each other as much as possible. I’ve
accomplished more in the last year than I ever thought possible.
When I graduate from SUNY Orange, I plan to transfer to a fouryear
school. I don’t know where I’d be today if SUNY Orange had
not been here for me. The College has allowed me to discover
myself, at my own pace. And it has helped me plan for
my future. Now I know what I want.
“My story is just beginning.”
sometimes be a long and painstaking process for
you and your family. But let me tell you what
succeed. At SUNY Orange, I have found the College
community to be warm and welcoming, and everyone
here is committed to helping students from all
walks of life become successful. Many of our faculty
are experts in their fields, and they truly create the
type of supportive and nurturing environment that
sets community colleges apart from other institutions
of higher learning. At the same time, they
oversee a rigorous curriculum that will challenge
you and also prepare you for the next chapter of
your academic or professional career.
“I welcome your interest in the College and look
forward to seeing you on campus.”
New Media
Program
Students seeking to enter the fields
of video, audio or digital film production
New Media degree program. You
will be immersed in all elements of
the creative, editing and production
processes related to today’s audio
and video professions. The course
sequence is rich with new courses
in cinematography, digital storytelling,
Graduates will be proficient in visual
composition using different forms of
digital media such as video, photography,
web design and art.
Supporting Students
Enhancing Student Services
Over the past three years, SUNY Orange has been awarded
nearly $3 million in federal grant funding from the U.S.
Department of Education to help students remain enrolled
and complete their degree.
With that money, the College has restructured its student
services programs into a comprehensive “one-stop” center
called Student Services Central. The College has also rolled
out MySUNYOrange, the online access point for students to
use web-enabled support services, review student records
and utilize online learning tools.
In the coming months, the College will unveil a program to
support the efforts of low-income first generation students
and students with disabilities. The “Student Success
Project” will feature a proactive advising approach that
includes a wide range of specialized services.
Financial Aid
In order to receive Federal Financial Aid, students must
meet the following requirements:
• Qualify to be admitted into the College by supplying
valid high school transcripts or a GED
• Be enrolled in a degree program (federal and state
laws require that the courses you take must apply to
your degree program)
• Submit Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
documentation to the Wellness Center
• Maintain good attendance record (excessive absence
may cause financial aid to be reduced or eliminated)
• Maintain Federal and State Satisfactory Academic
agreements with many other colleges and
universities to facilitate smooth transitions
for our students.
Following is a partial list of institutions
Honors
Program
The SUNY Orange Honors Program
offers highly motivated and talented
students opportunities to more
fully develop their potential. Honors
students are challenged to assume
more control of their intellectual
development, allowing opportunities
for cross-curricular learning and
providing more in-depth experience
with issues and topics of global and
societal importance. Exceptional
students have increased opportunities
for personal growth in the areas
of academic inquiry, cultural awareness,
community responsibility and
leadership.
In short, you will grow, discover and
achieve in a myriad of ways.
SUNY Orange can also offer students a
chance to secure a bachelor’s degree in
certain programs without ever leaving
Orange County, thanks to our relationship
with Franklin University and its Community
College Alliance. Our participation
in the Hudson Valley Educational Consortium
brings emergency response and
innovative technology degree programs
from other community colleges in the area
to the classrooms of SUNY Orange. And
our nursing program is aligned with the
Decker School of Nursing at SUNY Binghamton
so our graduates and members of
the community can easily pursue an RN
to BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
degree track.

Each semester brings new challenges and, in turn, new solutions. What may work with one
class simply won’t work for others. Students always have new insights and observations
into what can make a course or art experience better. Those insights and observations
have helped make me a better educator and have contributed to keeping my classes
