About this Week’s Theme
Lamplighters Yeshivah Newsletter - Didan Notzach
Coming back from
Chanukah, it felt as if
Lamplighters could not feel
any brighter...BUT, hey Teves
ushered in yet another layer
to the joy we have been
celebrating these past
weeks!
In these times of the
realization of Moshiach, it
may seem we are doing
everything we can possibly
do. We are following Torah
and performing mitzvos and
even acting as lamplighters--
spreading our light to those
around us.
But the truth is we must do
even more! We must be filled
with the great joy that bursts
through ALL
limitations and IGNORES all
restrictions. This joy must
infuse our actions and
influence all that we do. This
week, as we celebrated hey
Teves, the classrooms
focused on this goal--to do
more for Yiddishkeit by using
the seforim and our
enthusiasm to spread Torah.
AND CHARIDY?? Well,
"Didan notzach!"
What a treat! Morah Hinda’s father is an author of many books. Morah Hinda arranged for him to come speak to us about
the story of Hey Teves. The girls were totally mesmerized. He finished off saying, "Now someone needs to write a book
about Moshaich, who's it going to be?!" Most girls raised their hand | Our Hey Teves book drive | Thank you Rebbetzin
Schaffer, hubby of Dov and Gedalia Schmidt, and Yitchack and Gedalia Minkowitz, for the tour of this special library.
PARENTS PASS THE TORCH - BY RUSSI AND DOVI WACHTEL
The end of last week's Parsha concluded with Yosef insisting that Benyomin remain
behind in Egypt as his slave. This week's reading opens with Yehudah approaching
Yosef and appealing to him to allow Benyomin to return to his father Yaacov.
Yehuda, the one who assumed personal responsibility to Yaacov for Benyomin’s safe
return, tried to negotiate with Yosef and pleads to be taken as a slave in place of his
brother Benyomin. At this point, when Yosef sees how much Yehudah cares about
Benyomin, he could not restrain himself any longer. He sends all his servants and
guards out of the room and weeps "I am Yosef, is my father still alive?"
The strength and courage it took for Yehudah to approach Yosef can easily be
overlooked considering that there is so many other highlights in this week's parsha!
However, it is substantial to recognize how terrifying it must have been for Yehudah
to approach the second in command to the most powerful man in Egypt! Yehudah
had no idea that it was in fact Yosef that he was approaching!
PARENTS PASS THE TORCH - (CONTINUED)
As a jewish nation that is ceaselessly being bombarded with criticism
and hate it is our duty to “approach” the opposition with tenacity as
opposed to fleeing from it. It is our job to defend our nation and to
fight for the ones we love because in the end it will be our courage
that will unite us like Yosef and his brothers.
From Yehuda’s bravery we learn how to face our demons, whether
externally or inside ourselves, head on and to fight the opposition
with truth, sincerity and with strength.
