Matua began as a small, family-run winery in West Auckland, New<br />
Zealand in 1973. The name Matua, in New Zealand’s native Maori<br />
language, means “head of the family,” an appropriate title given this<br />
winery’s instrumental role in developing Sauvignon Blanc into what<br />
is now New Zealand’s most acknowledged wine varietal. Growing<br />
up in a wine-making family in the community of West Auckland,<br />
Matua founders Ross and Bill Spence, developed a vision for New<br />

local wine industry, taking advantage of unique regional qualities to<br />

vintage, the brothers have gone on to win numerous awards and<br />
