The Esk Valley Railway<br />

The railway stops at 15 stations between Whitby<br />

and Middlesbrough, as well as linking with the<br />

Bus and Rail Services<br />

Regular local bus services operate all year round<br />

throughout the area.<br />

Car hire is based in Malton, <strong>North</strong>allerton and<br />

Scarborough.<br />

By Air<br />

The nearest airports are Leeds Bradford, Robin Hood<br />

Doncaster Sheffield, Durham Tees Valley and Newcastle.<br />

Train and bus connections can be made from these<br />

airports to the area. Slightly further away is Manchester<br />

Airport which is served by direct rail connections into<br />

Thirsk, <strong>North</strong>allerton, Malton and Scarborough.<br />

By Coach<br />

Filey, Scarborough, Thirsk and York are all stops on<br />

National Express coach routes. Local bus services can<br />

be picked up at these destinations.<br />

By Rail<br />

Virgin Trains East Coast, Grand Central and First<br />

Transpennine Express run services from all parts of<br />

the country to York, Leeds and Darlington where<br />

connections can be made to stations within the area<br />

including Filey, Malton, <strong>North</strong>allerton, Scarborough and<br />

Thirsk. The Esk Valley Railway between Middlesbrough<br />

and Whitby, also the <strong>Yorkshire</strong> Wolds Coast Line<br />

between Hull and Scarborough.<br />

By Road<br />

The A1 passes through the western side of the area<br />

and is connected to the east and the coast via the<br />

A64 at York and the A170 at Thirsk. The A19 runs <strong>North</strong><br />

to South through the area, parallel to the A1, and<br />

passes through York, Thirsk and close to <strong>North</strong>allerton.<br />

On the eastern side of the area the A165 follows<br />

the coast from Hull to Scarborough, while <strong>North</strong><br />

of Scarborough the A171 travels up through Whitby,<br />

going on to Middlesbrough.<br />

By Sea<br />

P&O Ferries sail daily from the Netherlands and Belgium<br />

to Hull, which is to the south of <strong>North</strong> <strong>Yorkshire</strong>.<br />
