Location <strong>St</strong> <strong>Vincent</strong> is the largest and most<br />
populated island of the archipelago of 32<br />
islands and cays known as the ‘Jewels of the<br />
<strong>Caribbean</strong>’. It is part of the Windward Islands<br />
chain in the Southern <strong>Caribbean</strong> region and<br />
lies 100 miles west of Barbados. Buccament<br />
Bay is situated on the southwest coast of<br />
<strong>St</strong> <strong>Vincent</strong>.<br />

Area 344 sq km/133 sq miles; 29 km/18<br />
miles long 18 km/11 miles wide.<br />
Geography <strong>St</strong> <strong>Vincent</strong> is a volcanic island.<br />
<strong>The</strong> northern third of the island is mountainous<br />
(parts of this area are accessible only by<br />
boat because roads cannot be built on the<br />
terrain). <strong>The</strong> highest point is La Soufriere<br />
volcano – 1,234 metres. Most of the island’s<br />
population lives near the southern coast. <strong>The</strong><br />
island has a total of 84 km of coastline.<br />

famous Bounty mutiny.<br />
Climb to the top of La Soufriere, an active volcano that last erupted in 1979.<br />

See the cannons at Fort Charlotte which sits at 183m (600ft) above <strong>St</strong> <strong>Vincent</strong>’s capital, Kingstown.<br />
Swim at Owia Salt Pond, a bathing pool enclosed by lava peaks and ridges. Sail down to Tobago<br />
Cays, a group of five small uninhabited islands surrounded by a spectacular Horseshoe Reef that<br />
is a playground for turtles and is designated a National Marine Park.<br />
Take a trip to the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary on Bequia to view the endangered hawksbill turtle<br />
