economically dependent on others as well as deprived of social justice. Oppression and suppression are the order of the day. With such great leadership as have arose in the past, why are we still in such a condition and still under the grip of those who have proven that they do not have our best interests at heart? Why are we so powerless and how do we get this “POWER” that is so often spoken of? Black power is not an individual achievement. Many people attribute power to an individual that possesses a large amount money. This may be true when applied to others outside of the Black population, but does not hold true with any member of the Black population at the moment. The saying; “A person can rise no higher than his/her nation” proves true. All of the so-called “rich and powerful” Blacks, which we know of, receive their paychecks from the white economic establishment so they are under constant threat of losing it at any time. This nullifies their ability to do things they really want or speak up for what they may believe in if it conflicts with the stance or motives of the white establishment. As a matter of fact they promote the views and objectives of the white establishment; calling their own people niggas, singing/rapping about killing other Blacks, labeling their own sisters with bad names and promoting their mistreatment. This establishment owns the record companies, sports teams, television networks, radio stations and the distribution channels that are responsible for paying our “rich and powerful”. Thus the power of money or influence that our beloved “stars” attain is “given unto the beast”. When we have our own establishment, we can pay our own so that they are FREE and can do and speak Black and stand for justice or just simply exercise their right to free speech. With that point being made; we need Black power to stand and survive. Unity precedes power. ECONOMICS must be our unifying theme as there is no debating our economic condition and potential such as there is debate over religion or philosophy. We find all creeds in the same bank, in the same grocery store, using the SAME dollar. “Buy Black” and “Blackout” (don’t spend Black dollars with a white establishment) are now slogans being used by those participating in our rise or struggle against oppression. There now is an awareness and general consensus amongst Black “leadership” that the best route available for Black people to attain and exercise Power is in the economic context. Keep that in mind as we proceed. DEFINITION OF POWER When we speak of those who oppress and suppress us we commonly use the phrase; “powers that be”. When revolutionaries or rebels against that system speak about opposing that system, the phrase: “fight the power” is spoken. When we speak of our own people’s ability or acquiring of the capability to act with national strength we say: “Black Power”. What exactly is power? How did the “Powers That Be” attain power? How do we, the Black Nation, get power?
In the dictionary power is defined as: 1. Ability to do or act; capability of doing or accomplishing something 2. Political or national strength 3. Great or marked ability to do or act; strength; might; force Power, in the physics sense, is the rate of doing work. Its formula is: POWER=WORK/time. The amount of work done at what rate of speed determines the Power. We all know what group of people can do the most work in the least amount of time. Hint: the ones that the “Powers That Be” brought to America in the hulls of ships to perform forced labor. Let’s look at the equation of Electrical Power. POWER = VOLTAGE X CURRENT Voltage is also called “electrical potential tension” or electric potential energy per unit charge. Current is the flow of the electric charge. VOLTAGE LAW states that: No matter what path you take through an electric circuit, if you return to your starting point you must measure the same voltage, constraining the net change around the loop to be zero. Since voltage is electric potential energy per unit charge, the voltage law can be seen to be a consequence of conservation of energy and conservation of energy demands that energy is neither created nor destroyed. Again; Power = Voltage x Current Power is determined by how that potential energy is demanded and flows. In social terms we can say that voltage is the value or worth of something while current/flow is how the price charged is spent or circulated using c-u-r-r-e-n-c-y. We all are voltage/potential energy having value and we charge for our labor and get paid in currency which we can channel to purchase what we need, desire or can afford. Also we own assets that have value and can be traded for currency or items. The power of a people/nation is determined by its people, its assets, its products and their worth or respected value charged to those who request or have a demand, and its currency flow system. How do Black people really attain power? SET OUR OWN VALUE AND USE OUR OWN CURRENCY!!!
