founders, The Impreza WRX Club of NSW, have done a great
work in building a fantastic event platform for other clubs to
host in their state as the event moves around Australia.”
ARRON WINDUS
RALLIES IN
BRITAIN
After initially missing out on a drive at the Vauxhall
Motorsport Junior Rally Team, disappointment swiftly
turned to elation for 19-year-old Victorian Arron Windus
after the team elected to expand their two car team to three.
Windus was one of seven international rally drivers selected by
Vauxhall to test their Adam R2 rally car, with the prospect of a
drive in the 2016 MSA British Rally Championship.
Swedish driver Mattia Adielsson and Irishman Robert Duggan
received the call up to fill the two promised seats, however
Vauxhall were so impressed with Windus’ performance during
the test they opted to run a third car.
“This is an incredible opportunity, just to have even been
selected was a dream come true. I have the honour to work with
the best team in the business and of course my team mates
Mattias Adielsson and Robert Duggan,” Windus said.
Windus’ co-driver will be the highly experienced Australian
Rhianon Gelsominono, who is the sister of Australian rally driver
Brendan Reeves.
“I have known Arron since he was a young kid and this is a
great opportunity for us both,” said Gelsominono said.
“Looking forward to round one the Mid Wales Stages in March!”
Windus was also quick to point out the massive amount of
support he’s received from Australia bin his endeavour to
secure a seat with the team.
“I have to thank everyone in Australia. It’s been absolutely
incredible, I really hope to make everyone proud back home
and show what the Aussie’s are made of,” Windus said.
“The only reason I have been able to follow my dream is
because of the best Dad in the world. Looking back and
reflecting on how far I have come from the annoying kid around
the service park to being in the biggest opportunity overseas.
“My father has supported my dream since I could walk, I have
always looked up to my dad and from last year being able to
compete against him was something special! I have one aim
this year in the BRC and that is to make my family proud!
“I cannot thank my mother enough for all her support and
putting up with me since I was young. I love you so much mum
and I cannot wait to share this opportunity with you soon!”
The first Round of the British Rally Championship begins in
early March with the Mid Wales Stages.
