RALLY
AUSSIES TAKE ON
DAKAR RALLY
Two Australians, two categories and one gruelling Dakar create
entertainment to last a lifetime
The best part about any new year is the Dakar. Arguably the
hardest race in the world, we had two Aussies take part in
the gruelling race.
To top off a solid 2015 effort from finishing third on debut,
Newcastle’s Toby Price defied all odds and finished the rally
first in the Motorcycle division.
The Red Bull KTM racer finished 39 minutes, 41 seconds in
front of his teammate, and made the entire Australian motor
sport community extremely proud.
“Being the first Australian to win the Dakar is just insane,” Price
told the ABC.
“I don’t know what to say, I don’t know what to think … I’m
in shock, I never would’ve thought I could win this race in my
second participation.
“This is incredible for my family, my friends and my fans back in
Australia.”
Over in the Car division was experienced Australian co-driver
Dale Moscatt, who was partnered with Czech Peter Jerie to
finish a solid 32nd outright.
The pair completed their Dakar dream in their Toyota Hilux, and
said they could not be more proud to finish after 15 days of
competition and 4800 competitive kilometres.
“A few simple words wouldn’t be able to describe the
adventure and challenge that this Dakar Rally has provided, nor
could it explain the feeling proudly achieving a finish on my first
attempt here in Argentina,” Moscatt said.
“So sitting down now with our team to celebrate is the first
thing to do … thanks so much for the support!”
