New appointments for Nova Scotia’s Judiciary<br />

1. The Honourable Judge Timothy Daley served as the<br />
Society’s President in 2012-2013 and had a lengthy legal career<br />
as a sole practitioner of the Goodman MacDonald Law Group<br />
in New Glasgow. He was sworn in May 8 by the Honourable<br />
Pamela S. Williams, Chief Judge of the Provincial and Family<br />
Courts, and sits primarily in Pictou.<br />
2. The Hon. <strong>Justice</strong> R. Lester Jesudason was appointed to<br />
the Nova Scotia Supreme Court Family Division, sitting mainly<br />
in Halifax. Joining him at his July 6 robing ceremony were (left to<br />
right) Mrs. Uma Verma, his wife’s grandmother; wife Moneesha<br />
Sinha, a lawyer with Blois Nickerson & Bryson LLP; their<br />
daughter Raina; and Dr. Gita Sinha, his mother-in-law.<br />
3. The Hon. Judge Elizabeth A. Buckle, a former federal<br />
Crown prosecutor, was in private practice with MacKinnon<br />
Buckle Stevenson prior to her appointment to the Provincial and<br />
Family Courts of Nova Scotia. She sits mainly in Amherst and<br />
is here at her May 22 robing ceremony with the Hon. Michael<br />
MacDonald, Chief <strong>Justice</strong> of Nova Scotia.<br />
4. The Hon. <strong>Justice</strong> Robert M. Gregan, formerly Managing<br />
Lawyer with Nova Scotia Legal Aid in Amherst, now presides<br />
in Sydney at the Nova Scotia Supreme Court Family Division.<br />
Robing him at his September 4 ceremony were the Hon. Joseph<br />
P. Kennedy (at left), Chief <strong>Justice</strong> of the Supreme Court; and the<br />
Hon. Lawrence I. O’Neil (at right), Associate Chief <strong>Justice</strong> of the<br />
Supreme Court Family Division.<br />
Other recent appointments:<br />
• The Hon. Richard F. Southcott was appointed as a<br />
judge of the Federal Court in Ottawa on May 5. He had<br />
been regional managing partner for Stewart McKelvey and<br />
prior to joining the Bench, was Vice President and General<br />
Counsel at Irving Shipbuilding Inc. in Halifax.<br />
• The Hon. Henry A. Visser joined the Tax Court of Canada<br />
on June 19. He was formerly a partner with McInnes Cooper<br />
in Halifax.<br />
