쇼케이스, 독회, 워크숍 등 다양한 형식으로 만 40세 이하 

예술가들의 새로운 실험을 지원합니다. 

We provide assistance for the creative and experimental 

endeavors of artists under age 40 in various forms, such 

as shows, readings and workshops. 

두산레지던시 뉴욕은 한국에서 활발히 활동하는 젊은 

작가들에게 6개월 동안 뉴욕 첼시 지역에 위치한 독립된 

작업실과 아파트를 제공합니다. 

DOOSAN Residency New York provides young 

promising Korean artists with private studio space and 

housing for six months in the Chelsea Art District in New 

York City. 

두산 큐레이터 워크샵은 한국 현대미술계에 새로운 시각을 

제시할 신진 큐레이터를 발굴, 지원하는 프로그램입니다. 

DOOSAN Curator Workshop discovers and supports 

emerging curators with promising outlooks on Korean 

contemporary art world. 

인재양성에 힘써온 두산 초대회장 故 연강 박두병 선생의 뜻을 

이어 2010년에 제정했으며, 미술과 공연 분야에서 독자적인 

세계를 구축하고 새로운 흐름을 만들어가는 만 40세 이하 

예술가들을 지원합니다. 

Established in 2010 to honor the intention and 

philosophy of Doosan’s Founder Too Pyung Park, 

who devoted himself to cultivating talent, this award 

recognizes outstanding young artists under age 40 with 

extraordinary practices in the field of performing and 

visual arts.

3~5년 간 신작 창작 시 제작비 전액 지원 

신작 워크샵 및 해외 리서치 지원 

The full production cost for the creation of new works is 

provided for 3-5 years. 

Expenses for workshops and overseas research are

두산레지던시 뉴욕은 한국에서 활발히 활동하는 젊은

Open Studio 

국제적으로 활동하는 큐레이터 및 비평가를 초청하여 입주 

작가들을 소개하고 작품세계에 대해 논의할 수 있도록 

지원하는 프로그램입니다. 레지던시 작가들이 입주한 6개월 

동안 2회에 걸쳐 작가들과 일대일 만남이 이루어집니다. 

Studio Visit Program invites international curators and 

art critics to the residency studios to introduce resident 

artists and to engage in an in-depth discussion of their 

works. The artists receive two one-on-one meetings with 

art professionals during their six-month stay in New York. 

아티스트 토크는 뉴욕에서 활동하는 작가 지망생이나 신진 

작가들에게 레지던시 작가들이 자신의 작품세계와 제작 과정 

등을 자세히 소개하는 프로그램입니다. 

Artist Talks offer resident artists the opportunity to 

introduce their works and the production process in 

detail to new and up-and-coming artists in New York. 

오픈 스튜디오는 레지던시 기간 동안의 성과를 보여주고 

그간의 활동을 마무리하는 프로그램입니다. 미술 전문가와 

애호가들을 스튜디오에 초청하여 작가와 직접 만날 기회를 

갖습니다. 

Open Studio is held at the end of every residency as part 

of the wrap-up and overview of each period. 

Art professionals and enthusiasts are invited to meet with 

resident artists in person.

두산 큐레이터 워크샵은 한국 현대미술계에 새로운 시각을 

제시할 신진 큐레이터를 발굴, 지원하는 프로그램입니다. 매년 

3명의 큐레이터를 선정하여 1년 동안 각 분야의 전문가들을 

초청, 강의·세미나·워크샵으로 현대미술의 이론과 현장을 깊이 

있게 다룹니다. 워크샵 후 두산갤러리에서 3인이 같이 전시를 

기획해 봄으로써 직접적인 큐레이팅 기회를 갖습니다.

DOOSAN Curator Workshop discovers and supports 

emerging curators with promising outlooks on Korean 

contemporary art world. The program selects three new 

curators every year to partake in an in-depth discourse on 

contemporary art theories and issues through lectures/ 

seminars/workshops conducted by invited professionals 

of various fields. After one year, the three curators are 

given the opportunity to concretize their research by coorganizing 

an exhibition at DOOSAN Gallery.

Doosan Artist Award was established in 2010 to honor

이야기합니다. 2013년 ‘빅 히스토리’, 2014년 ‘불신시대’, 

2015년 ‘예외’에 이어 2016년 주제는 ‘모험’입니다. 

Doosan Humanities Theater Series is a venue filled 

with sociological, humanistic and artistic imagination 

about mankind and society. The program offers stories 

related with a selected theme through various formats 

including performances, exhibitions, lectures, films, and 

discussions with artists. The lectures and film screenings 

in the Humanities, Sociology and Sciences are carried 

out under the theme ‘New Imagination on the Extended

현실과 그것을 극복하려는 노력을 통해 진정한 가족애와 감동을 

전달한다. 

Next to Normal is a musical about Diana, who suffers 

from a mental illness, and the love and pain of her family. 

It intricately describes the mental state of her family who 

tries to overcome the pain, giving a strong emotional 

impact by describing the reality of a disintegrating family 

and the genuine love of a family who tries to overcome the 

difficulty.

‹친정엄마›는 나이를 먹으면서 점점 애틋해지는 모녀간 정을 

다룬 작품이다. 고혜정의 수필집 「친정엄마」를 원작으로 

2007년에는 연극, 2010년에는 영화와 뮤지컬로 제작되었다. 

주인공 봉란이 딸의 결혼을 준비하며 겪는 이야기로 엄마와 

딸의 관계를 통해 진정한 사랑에 대해 생각하게 한다. 

Mother focuses on the ardent love and bond between 

mother and daughter which gets stronger with age. 

Based on the original collection of essays Mother by 

Koh, Hye Jung, it was produced into a film in 2007 and a 

musical in 2010. The series of events that take place as 

Bongran prepares for her daughter’s wedding gives the 

audience a chance to think about the genuine motherdaughter 

bond and love.

제이슨은 자신의 모든 것을 잃을까 두려워 커밍아웃을 거부하며 

두 사람의 갈등이 심화된다.

고비도시는 풀이 잘 자라지 않는 거친 땅이란 뜻의 몽고어 

‘고비’와 동시대 사회 ·경제 ·정치적 활동의 중심이 되는 ‘도시’의 

합성어다. 신승열은 다양한 작품, 장르의 작가들과 협업하는 

무대미술 프로젝트를 통해 대안공간, 대안연극을 모색한다. 

Gobi+city combines the Mongolian word ‘Gobi’ which 

means rough terrain unreceptive to vegetation growth, 

and ‘City’ as a center of contemporary society, economy, 

and political activities. Shin, Seung Ryul explores 

alternative space and theater through stage art projects 

incorporating artists of other various works and genres.

프랑스 희곡작가 폴 앙텔므(Paul Anthelme)의 「우리의 두 

‹여보세요›는 김애란의 단편소설 「노크하지 않는 집」을 

원작으로 한 창작 판소리다. 이승희, 이향하는 국악 창작그룹 

‘판소리만들기 자’의 아티스트로 소리꾼과 고수를 맡고 있다. 

각기 다른 삶을 사는 다섯 명의 여자가 모인 하숙집이 배경이다. 

주인공은 여러 상황들을 마주하며 다른 사람들에게 묘한 인간적 

동질감을 느끼게 된다. 같은 공간 속에서 완전한 타인으로 

살아가는 현대인의 모습과 동시에 사라져가는 개인에 대해 

판소리로 담아낸다. 

Excuse me is a creative Pansori based on the original 

short novel The House without Knocking by Kim, Ae 

Ran. Lee, Seung Hee and Lee, Hyangha are the singer 

and percussionist of the traditional Korean musical 

group ‘Pansori Project Za’. The story of the musical is set 

in a share house of 5 different female roommates living 

different lives. The stories taking place in an unfamiliar 

share house, as the main character goes through various 

situations and discovers a mysterious sense of humane 

kinship towards others, is told through Pansori.

황이선은 2012년 연극 ‹런닝머신 타는 남자의 연애갱생 

프로젝트›로 두산아트센터 – 서울프린지네트워크 공동기획 

프로젝트 빅보이에 선정되었다. 신작 ‹앨리스를 찾아서›는 집을 

잃은 사람들의 이야기로 희망의 가치와 이면을 다룬 작품이다. 

각자 사연을 갖고 재개발 이후 폐허가 된 공간에 모이게 된 

인물들은 사회에서 규정한 행복과 관계 구조로부터 외면당한다. 

폐허가 된 마을, 집과 지킬 것이 사라진 가족 등 다양한 장면을 

무대언어로 구현한다. 

The play Finding Alice is a sincere hope-filled story about 

people who have lost their home. Hwang, E Sun was 

selected for the 2012 PROJECT BIGBOY for the play 

The Love-Reliance Project of Man Riding a Treadmill. 

Each with his own hopes, the characters come together 

in a space which has become ruins after redevelopment, 

denied of the structures of society and house. They 

physically express the various spaces, such as a ruined 

house or high rise apartment, and ruminate on reality in the 

imaginary space of the stage.

‹디지털 네이션›은 디지털 기술에 익숙한 세대와 그렇지 않은 

세대를 다룬 작품이다. 정동욱은 무대미술을 바탕으로 새로운 

관객참여형 퍼포먼스를 선보인다. 어릴 때부터 디지털 기술을 

접하며 자라온 세대는 ‘디지털 원주민’, 아날로그 방식에 익숙한 

세대는 ‘디지털 이주민’으로 설정한다. 관객은 게임, 영상 등 

다양한 방식으로 두 세대 간의 소통을 경험한다. 튜브물감이 

19세기 화풍을 바꾸고 타이프라이터가 니체의 문체를 

바꾸었듯이 디지털 기술이 사람들의 생각을 어떻게 바꾸는지 

알아본다. 

Digital Nation is about a generation that’s fluent in digital 

technology and a generation that isn’t. Jeong, Dong Uk 

presents a new audience-participatory performance 

based on stage art. The generation which has been 

exposed to the digital technology since early age in life is 

referred to as ‘digital natives’, and the generation used to 

an analogue way of life is regarded as ‘digital emigrants’. 

The audience experiences communication between the 

two generations through various forms such as games 

and video. Just as tube paints changed the 19th century 

art painting style and the typewriter changed Nietzsche’s 

style of writing, this work looks at how digital technology 

transformed the way people think.

신유청은 다양한 형식을 통해 공연 장르의 새로운 가능성을 

실험하는 연출가이다. 연극 ‹소리의 威力 위력›은 라디오 

드라마라는 매체를 통해 ‘소리’가 갖는 힘에 대해 이야기한다. 

1962년 라디오 방송국에서 예기치 못한 인질극이 벌어진다. 

인질이 된 성우들은 라디오 드라마 ‹코리아 라볼루숑›을 

녹음하기 위해 인질범과 타협하기 시작한다. 오직 소리만으로 

진행되는 드라마를 통해 관객은 무대라는 공간을 넘어 새로운 

상상을 하게 된다.

Shin, Yoo Chung is a director devoted to the exploration 

of new possibilities in the performing arts through various 

forms. The play The Power of Sound sheds light on the 

power of ‘sound’ through the medium of the radio. In the 

play, an unexpected hostage taking situation unfolds at a 

radio station in 1962. The voice actors, taken as hostages, 

start to negotiate with the hostage takers to record the 

radio drama Korea Ravolution. The audience’s imagination 

reaches beyond the space of the stage through this drama 

conducted only through sound.

Chang, Hyun Joon has presented various works of 

multidisciplinary genres that encompass both visual and 

performing arts. In this work, He insists on the use of the 

body to bring up issues commonly regarded as being 

unperceivable through experiences and senses. Through 

the form of lectures and presentations, he shares the 

experiences with the audience by using various mediums 

including sound and video, based on the movement of the 

body.

모험은 두렵다. 인간이 했던 대부분의 항해는 해안이 보이는 

연안에서 이루어졌다. 아무것도 없는 바다에 나가는 것이 

두려웠기 때문이다. 하지만 두려움을 뒤로 하고 큰 바다로 나간 

사람들이 있고 그들이 발견한 것들이 세상을 바꿨다. 미지의 

공간에 대한 탐험, 이를 통한 지적 성취를 이룬 인류 앞에는 

여전히 가야 할 길이 많이 남아 있다. 

‘두산인문극장 2016’에서는 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화의 모든 

측면에서 돌파구가 보이지 않는 답답한 현실을 돌파하고, 

사상의 한계를 깨기 위한 새로운 상상력을 얻기 위해 ‘모험’을 

화두로 이야기할 예정이다. 

Adventure is frightening. Most journeys into the sea have 

been taken place along the coast where the shoreline 

is visible, because venturing out into the nothingness of 

the ocean is terrifying. However, some put their fears 

behind and headed out into the sea, and what they 

discovered changed the world. A lot still lies ahead of 

mankind and their intellectual achievements through the 

expeditions into the unknown. 

‘Doosan Humanities Theater 2016’ penetrates through 

issues that seem impenetrable in all aspects of reality, 

including politics, economy, society and culture. The 

theme of the program this year is ‘New Imagination 

on the Extended Territory’, reflecting the new force of 

imagination to break through the limitations of human 

thought.

‹멜리에스 일루션 — 에피소드›는 예술로 확장된 마술인 

‘일루션’을 통해 모험을 시도하는 작품이다. 기존 마술의 

세계관에 질문하며, 피사체를 촬영하여 이미지로 만드는 

시네마토그래피(cinematography)를 마술적 관점으로 다뤘던 

조르주 멜리에스(Georges Méliès)에 대한 재해석을 시도한다. 

‘두산인문극장 2016: 모험’의 첫 번째 작품으로 다원예술축제 

2월 영국에서 초연되었으며, 부의 양극화로 인한 현대사회의 

주거문제를 보여준다. 

Mike Bartlett’s latest work Game illustrates the extreme 

survival game between the house poor and capitalists. 

The house poor Ashley and Carly live in the game space 

provided by capitalists in exchange for their survival. The 

participants of the game become voyeurs and observe 

their living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. 

Premiered in UK in February 2015, Game demonstrates 

problems of dwelling in contemporary society due to 

polarization.

‹인터넷 이즈 씨리어스 비즈니스›는 2003년 결성된 해커 그룹 

어나니머스 (Anonymous)의 생성과 붕괴를 다룬 작품이다.

핵티비스트를 어떻게 바라볼 것인가에 대해 질문한다.

극단 몸꼴은 생소한 언어와 접촉하고 실험하며 사회가 잊고 

지나치거나 애써 묻어둔 소수의 이야기에 주목한다. 이번 

신작은 윌리엄 세익스피어(William Shakespeare)의 햄릿을 

모티브로 한 작품이다. 물질과 정신, 모두가 소진된 사회에서 

애써 소멸되어가는 권력을 붙들고 있는 지배자와 그가 감시하고 

교란하는 세상의 모습을 보여준다. 

Theater Momggol experiences with unfamiliar language, 

and focuses on the stories of the few which has been 

forgotten or overlooked by the society. Based on William 

Shakespeare’s Hamlet as its motif, this new work portrays 

a ruler who laboriously tries to exercise his power that’s 

going extinct in society which he inspects and perturbs, 

where everything including matter and mind has 

exhausted.

‹글로리아›는 학벌주의, 사회적 소외감, 인종차별 등 다양한 

문제가 만연한 우리 사회의 모습을 다룬 작품이다. 충격적인

과정과 내면의 욕망을 예리하게 풍자한다. 작가 브랜든 

제이콥스-젠킨스(Branden Jacobs-Jenkins)는 인종차별, 혼혈, 

정체성 등의 문제가 개인을 넘어 사회적 문제라고 인식하고, 

이를 신랄하면서도 유머러스하게 보여준다. 

Gloria examines the various problems running rampant in 

our society, including discrimination of education, social 

alienation and racism. The work presents a sharp satire 

on the inner desires and the transformation process of the 

characters whose lives are completely shaken to the roots 

by a shocking event. The writer Branden Jacobs-Jenkins 

recognizes that issues like racism, mixed-blood children 

and identity go beyond the individual to the society, and 

casts a biting yet humorous perspective on such matters.

제3회 두산연강예술상 수상자 김은성의 신작이다. 극작가 

김은성은 동시대 문제의식과 연극의 근원에 관한 질문을 

끊임없이 던진다. 자본주의 사회의 문제점을 사실적으로 

표현하며, 연극 ‹목란언니›로 2012 대한민국연극대상 ‘작품상’, 

2012 동아연극상 ‘희곡상’ 등을 수상했다. 

This is the latest work by Kim, Eun Sung the winner of 

the 3rd Doosan Artist Award. As a playwright, Kim has 

perpetually thrown questions on the critical mind and 

the origin of theater in the contemporary age. He aptly 

expresses the thematic consciousness on the problems of 

capitalist society through critical realism. Kim won 2012 

Korea Theater Awards and 2012 Dong-A Theater Award 

for ‘Best Play’ for the work Sister Mokran.

‹현실활용가›는 눈앞의 현실을 독자적인 시선으로 인식하고, 

예술을 위한 도구로 흡수하는 작가들의 태도를 탐구한다. 

예술가로서 살아가는 것의 어려움은 경제적 문제에만 국한된 

것이 아니다. 이번 전시는 이 어려움들에 대한 고민을 공유하는 

기획자 3명이 “쉽지 않은 현실의 조건들 속에서 예술가로서 

존재하는 그들만의 방식은 무엇인가?”라는 질문을 던지며 

시작되었다. 그리고 이 질문에 대한 답으로 예술이 생존의 

도구이며 삶에 대한 태도인 4명의 작가 박보나, 유목연, 윤지영, 

윤지원의 작업을 조명하며 현실을 새롭게 인식하고 활용하는 

방식을 제시한다. 

Choi, Heeseung, Jang, Hyejung, and Lee, Seolhui, who 

were selected for the 2015 5th DOOSAN Curator 

Workshop, invited professionals who spoke about 

the theories and practicalities related to co-curated 

exhibitions, and conducted seminars on various 

researches including the selection of exhibition subjects. 

Discrete Use of Reality explores artists who perceive 

reality through an innovative perspective and apply it as an 

instrument for their artistic expression. The exhibition was 

inspired by three curators’ reflections on the difficulties 

of being an artist in reality today, which expand beyond 

financial hardships, and questions the ways in which 

artists practice their works in the harsh conditions of 

reality. This exhibition focuses on 4 artists including Park, 

Bona, Yoo, Mok-Yon, Yoon, Jiyoung, and Yoon, Jeewon, 

to whom art is the very instrument of life and is thus their 

outlook on life, and proposes new perceptions and use of 

reality. 

문성식은 유년시절의 기억을 바탕으로 경험한 풍경을 회화나 

드로잉으로 그린다. 문성식의 작업은 개인적인 경험에서 

출발하지만 삶의 보편적인 모습을 다루며 정서적 공감대를 

이끌어낸다. 그는 화려한 기교 대신 소박하지만 섬세한 표현으로 

삶의 다양한 모습과 감정을 전달한다. 

Based on the memories of his childhood, Moon, Sungsic 

illustrates his experiences through painting and drawing. 

While his works begin with personal experiences, 

they shed life on the universal aspects of life, and invite 

emotional bond of sympathy. He delivers the various 

looks and emotions of life through simple but delicate 

expressions rather than through fancy techniques.

정지현은 일상에서 개인의 무(유)의미한 행위를 기록하거나, 

현실에서 부딪히는 상황에 대한 무력감을 설치, 영상, 드로잉 등 

다양한 매체로 표현한다. 그의 작품에 등장하는 여러 종류의 

오브제들은 익숙한 현실에서 가져왔음에도 불구하고, 다시 

해체되고 재조합 하는 과정을 통해 새로운 이야기를 만든다. 

Jung, Jihyun records the individual’s (un)meaningful 

gestures in reality or captures the sense of helplessness 

in reality through various mediums including installation, 

video and drawing. Despite the fact that the various 

objects which appear in his work are familiar objects in 

reality, they invent new narratives through the process of 

deconstruction and reconstruction. 

두산갤러리 뉴욕은 2009년 국내에서 최초로 뉴욕 주정부와 

교육청의 정식 인가를 받고 뉴욕 첼시에 설립된 비영리 

갤러리입니다. 국내외에서 활동하는 한국의 젊은 작가들에게 

뉴욕에서의 전시기회를 제공하고 이를 통하여 향후 국제적으로 

활동해 나갈 수 있도록 지원하고 있습니다. 

또한 다양한 갤러리 프로그램을 통하여 현지 전문가와 교류하고 

일반 대중과의 소통을 통하여 한국 현대미술에 대한 이해와 

대중적 보급에 힘쓰고자 합니다. 

DOOSAN Gallery New York is Korea’s first non-profit 

organization to be recognized by the State of New York 

and the New York City Department of Education. Opening 

in 2009 in its prime location in Chelsea, the gallery gives 

Korean contemporary art expanded recognition and 

attention on the international stage. 

By exhibiting the work of selected young artists, the gallery 

nurtures the artists’ growth and further establishes Korean 

contemporary art in the international art community. 

Through various gallery programs, DOOSAN Gallery New 

York promotes exchanges with local art professionals and 

the public, devoted to facilitating popular understanding of 

Korean contemporary art.

두산 큐레이터 워크샵 특별전은 워크샵 참가자 중 선정하여 



두산갤러리 뉴욕에서 단독으로 전시를 기획할 수 있도록 

지원한다. 

주변을 떠다니는 삶의 조각들은 어느 순간 우리에게 생생하게 

다가온다. 이렇게 삶을 구체적으로 대면하게 하는 것이 

정서이다. ‹유영하는, 구체적인 Floating, Concrete›의 

세 명의 작가들은 우연히 마주한 대상과 장면에 공감하여 

작업을 전개하고 전달할 수 있는 방식을 고민한다. 권용주는 

도시에 버려진 부유한 물건들을 이어 붙여 확장, 변화시키고, 

김동규는 도깨비시장에서 우연히 발견한 한 점의 회화에서 

출발해 그 대상이 담고 있을 법한 구체적인 삶의 정서를 

표현한다. 이우성은 오고 가며 스쳐간 오늘의 장면을 천에 그린 

후, 거리로 갖고 나가 사람들에게 낯선 경험을 전해준다. 

Past participants of DOOSAN Curator Workshop 

Program are selected to organize a special exhibition 

at the DOOSAN Gallery in New York. The fragments of 

life that float around us suddenly emerge upon us vividly. 

Sentiment is how we face life in a concrete manner. The 

three artists in Floating, Concrete form an emotional 

bond with subjects and scenes they happen to come by, 

and contemplate on ways of progressing and delivering 

their work. Kwon, Yongju brings together discarded 

objects floating around in the city, linking, expanding and 

transforming them, and Kim, Dongkyu takes off from a 

painting he finds at a flea market, expressing the concrete 

sensibility of life captured by the subject, while Lee, 

Woosung draws scenes of daily life that go by unnoticed 

on fabric, and offers people an unfamiliar experience.

안정주는 소리와 이미지를 연결하거나 변형시킨 영상 작업을 

주로 하며 사회 현상을 다룬다. 이미 존재하고 있는 규칙에 따라 

움직임이 반복될 때 나타나는 리듬은 새로운 의미를 만들며, 

사회의 구조적 시스템을 상징적으로 보여준다. 안정주는 소리를 

가시화하고 기존의 이미지를 전혀 다른 감각들로 재구성하여 

새로운 질서를 만들어낸다. 

An, Jungju focuses on social phenomena through his 

video works which connect or transform sound and image. 

The new rhythm, produced by the repetition of movement 

to the existing regulations, creates new meanings and 

symbolically demonstrates the structural system of the 

society. His works create new order by visualizing sound 

and reconstituting existing images through completely 

different senses.

강동주는 도시 곳곳을 직접 이동하며 관찰한 주변 일상의 

단면과 도시의 모습을 그린다. 도시의 밤 풍경을 시간의 흐름에 

따라 캔버스 대신 종이나 먹지 위에 각기 다른 밀도로 담아낸다. 

강동주의 드로잉 작업은 달이나 빛의 움직임을 따라 이동한 

물리적 시간과 거리를 환산한 흔적이며, 밝음과 어둠이 공존하는 

양면의 이동 궤적이다. 

Kang, Dongju wanders around and observes the city, 

capturing aspects of its everyday. She portrays the 

nightscape of the city with different density on paper or 

carbon paper instead of canvas according to the flow of 

time. Her drawings reflect conversion of physical time and 

distance of her movement according to the movement of 

light or other light source, and capture traces of movement 

in the coexistence of brightness and darkness.

이윤성은 서양 고전 회화의 도상학적 이미지를 일본 만화 형식을 

사용하여 재구성한다. 그리스 신화의 인물들을 일본 만화 

주인공으로 변신시켜, 외관뿐만 아니라 기존의 캐릭터 자체를 

다르게 묘사하여 새로운 해석을 보여준다. 기존 회화의 사각형 

프레임을 벗어나 다양한 형태의 프레임을 사용한 캔버스는 

화면 안의 공간을 분할하여 형식적인 면에서도 새로운 실험을 

시도한다. 

Lee, Yunsung appropriates and reconstitutes 

iconographic images from Western classical paintings 

into Japanese manga style works. He transforms Greek 

mythological figures into Japanese manga characters, 

proposing new interpretations of the figures by changing 

not only their external appearances but their very own 

essence. Lee’s various forms of frames and canvases, 

which deviate from the traditional rectangular canvas, 

partition the space within the frames, and attempt at new 

formal experimentations.
